Although we believe that it is not necessary to say it, the first thing we have to do is add a connection password so that when we are not in front of the computer, no one can access the equipment and copy the content we have stored, as long as we remember blocking the user account.
If the equipment has Bluetooth connectivity, we can associate it with our PC so that when we get up to leave, even if it is a time, when we take the mobile with us, the PC detects that the mobile is no longer in its range and interpreter that the user has gone and proceed to block the equipment.

If we have a pro or superior version of Windows 10 or Windows 11, we can use the group guidelines to modify the type of access that has the PC to the removable storage units that we connect.
To access the Windows group guidelines (not available in the domestic version), from the search area, write “GPEDIT.MSC” without quotes and press the Enter key.
Then we go to the equipment configuration location> Administration models> System. In the right panel, we click twice in removable storage access.
Then we click the option twice All removable storage lessons: refuse access to everything. In this section, we click to activate. Finally, click on the application and then acceptance.
USB port blockkers
Another option that we can also use goes through an application that we must install on our PC and which allows you to block access to reading and writing USB ports connected to the equipment. One of the most complete applications to perform this task is René USB Block, an application that we can download and install for free.
Although it includes payment functions, those related to the reading and writing block of USB ports are available for use. The problem of this application and other applications of this type is that they work in the background, therefore, simply by closing it, it will stop doing its function.
Modification of the Windows register
The two options that we have indicated above are very easy to activate and deactivate, therefore, if we must use a pendrive or external refuge, we will have no problem to deactivate this function.
In addition to these two functions, we can also change the Windows recording to prevent storage units from working when they connect to a USB port. If we want to make this change, we need to access the Windows register via the “Regedit” application without quotes in the search zone.
Then we access the route: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> System> CurrentControlset> Services> USBSTOR. In this location, we must press twice in the start -up register and modify the number indicated in the value information of 3 by 4. Finally, we must restart the PC so that the modifications are applied.
