when you have a laptop that you’re constantly carrying from place to place (especially if you’re doing it in a backpack that’s not designed for laptops), it’s easy for its case to end up full of scratches and scuffs. Fortunately, if these are not too deep, there are several methods that can help you remove them or at least to hide them enough and give your laptop a good facelift. In this article, we tell you how.
It’s still pretty ugly to have a laptop full of scuffs and scratches. With the bumps and chips, nothing can be done except change the outer shell, but luckily there are several methods that can really help you renew the look of your laptop and keep it from looking like a truck. who crushed him. he.
Yes, the toothpaste works
It’s almost become an urban legend, but it really works (it’s something we tried ourselves). Toothpaste contains small abrasive particles that can somewhat “sand” surface scratches on your laptop’s case, smoothing its surface, and making those scratches or scuffs quite concealable.
The method is very, very simple:
- First, clean the surface of the laptop with a dry fiber cloth to make sure it is free from smudges and dust.
- Next, we recommend that you first test a small amount of toothpaste, with your finger, on a scratch or scrape, and see if it causes any damage. Please note that some laptops have an anti-fingerprint coating, which may render this method ineffective.
- When you’re sure it’s working as it should, apply some toothpaste to a dry cloth and rub gently on the area where the scratches are. Do this until they are seemingly gone.
- Then use a clean, dry cloth to remove the toothpaste.
- Finally, do the same with a damp (not wet) cloth to remove any leftover toothpaste.
Baking soda and lemon also help remove scratches on laptops
Similar to toothpaste, baking soda is another abrasive element that can help you remove scratches from the laptop case, and even more so if you mix it with squeezed lemon. The method would be as follows:
- Clean the surface to be treated with a fiber cloth to remove any remaining dust or stains.
- Mix a small amount of baking soda with lemon juice, without water.
- With a little cotton or a make-up remover wipe, lightly dip in the mixture from the previous step and rub gently on the chafing. Don’t push too hard.
- Let the mixture act for about 5 minutes.
- With a dry cloth, remove all excess and clean the surface well.
Note that if the surface of the laptop is metallic, replace the lemon juice with plain water.
polish for plastic or metal
Depending on whether the laptop case is plastic or metal, you can purchase a specific polish for the material it was constructed from. You can find this polish at hardware stores, department stores, or even Amazon. The typical car scratch repairer can serve you perfectly.
The mode of use is similar to the previous ones:
- First clean the scratched surface you want to repair.
- Apply polish and rub in gently until it “fills in” the scratches.
- Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Remove the excess and clean the surface with a dry cloth.
By the way, if your laptop has a metal case, you can perfectly apply varnish to its entire surface, as it will create a small protective layer, and also restore its natural shine.
Other methods to repair laptop scratches?
There are other methods, but honestly we haven’t tested them and therefore cannot guarantee that they will work properly. There are users who say that the so-called “Magic Eraser”, which is a kind of sponge designed to remove scratches from cars, has worked extremely well for them. Other users claim that just using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol mixed with distilled water also made the scratches well hidden (in this case they are more thought to have removed the embedded dirt in the crevices and that is why it is hidden).
Personally, we’ve tried both the toothpaste method and the metal polish method (car scratch repair) and both work quite well…neither completely removed the deepest scratches, but he disguised them and in some cases, as with the most superficial scratches, he completely eliminated them. In any case, here are some methods you can try for yourself and see which one worked best for you.
