It's been a year since Huawei announced its first wrap-up phone. The Mate X took the opposite of the crippled one, the Samsung Galaxy Fold holding the screen out, so that when threatened it would have a front and rear mirror.
But even now, that phone has never been officially launched outside of China, so your only option is if you live abroad to import one.
At the launch in China in late 2019, Huawei has taken the unusual step of presenting the updated model, which was a modified version of the original. It's called Mate Xs, and yes, it's the same pronunciation that Apple uses for the iPhone X and Xs the following year.
The main update is the Kirin 990 processor, but it also comes with an upgraded hinge and a powerful screen. (Note that the cover photos are from the original Mate X and not from the new model we're talking about).
The last two changes were discussed in an interview with French media by Huawei chief executive Richard Yu and reported by Franroid.
In a similar conversation, Yu stated that Huawei would like to introduce a European-made threat in the first quarter of 2020, but did not say that that would be an original or updated model.
To give you an idea of the basic guess about Mate X:
- To a great extent similar to the original Mate X
- Improved hinge design
- A screen that can withstand damage
- Kirin 990 processor (with 5G)
- Improved cameras
- European Release Date: Q1 2020
Rumors about the price of mate Xs
Of course, it would not make sense to introduce the original model in Europe. The Mate X is already quite expensive – the official price of the Mate X is 2,299 euros – so even though the Kirin 990 adds more to the price it won't make a difference to consumers, who will certainly want the final processor available to them for a special (and expensive) phone. too much).
Mate Xs release date
Keep in mind that Huawei hasn't announced an official release date yet – it is likely that the Mate Xs will not continue to be sold outside of China, as in their previous one.
Richard Yu said the Mate Xs will be on display at the CMM in February 2020, but that doesn't guarantee the European launch: since the announcement of the Mate X at the 2019 MCM.
There could be a possible impediment in the form of the current American trade ban, which means – as with other Huawei models – that the Mate X cannot be sold through Google services. And that could force interested buyers to take a look at the updated Green Fold, which has been released worldwide.

Mate X Details
While Huawei may have revamped some of the components, it's likely that many of them remain the same.
And if you need a quick reminder of Mate X's core definition, here are:
- Display: 8 inches, 2480×2200, (aspect ratio 8: 7.1)
- 8 GB of RAM + 512 MB of storage
- Battery: 4500mAh
- 40 MP (wide angle lens, if / 1.8 aperture) + 16 MP (Ultra wide angle lens, f / 2.2 aperture) + 8 MP (Telephoto, f / 2.4 aperture, OIS), Time Flight (TOF) for the camera
- Color: Blue Interstellar
As mentioned, the main Mate X camera sensor will use the RYYB pixel arrangement similar to the P30 Pro, which allows for better performance at lower light.
It should also be noted that, although the Kirin 990 performs better than the 980 in its CPU, GPU and NPU functions, it uses less power and also has a built-in 5G modem, instead of relying on a different one such as Mate Real X
