Watch GT is Huawei’s watch line that focuses more on fitness, especially compared to the Huawei Watch family of watches that includes more typical smartwatch features, moving away from the typical Fitbit activity tracker.
However, despite Watch GT being the sportiest range, Huawei wanted to surprise us with a much more refined design in its new Huawei GT 3 Pro.
The company first announced its “pro” Watch GT series in late 2020, with the introduction of the Watch GT 2 Pro, which differed from its more conventional siblings in having premium materials in its construction, as well as more elegant design.
Huawei applied the same approach to this year’s Pro. There are now two sizes to choose from, each with its own aesthetic and finish: the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition and the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Ceramic Edition.
When will the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro go on sale?
Huawei first introduced the Watch GT 3 Pro line on April 28, with a China-exclusive launch event that debuted several new devices, including the GT 3 Pro.
While phones – like the foldable Mate Xs 2, also unveiled on April 28 – seemed less likely to make it to more distant markets, expectations were high for wearables like the GT 3 Pro.
On May 18, the company held its 2022 “Huawei Flagship Product Launch” event, bringing to Europe and beyond virtually all of the devices that had just been launched in China at the end of April; including the Watch GT 3 Pro.
The presence of portable from Huawei has become even more important to the company in regions where smart phones Brands can’t compete as easily as before (they still suffer from restrictions imposed by the US) and the GT 3 Pro seems to offer more diversity and competition against strong competitors like Apple and Samsung in the space of smartphones. smart watches.
The Watch GT 3 Pro went on sale early between May 18 and May 29/June 7 (Titanium Edition/Ceramic Edition); the Titanium Edition will go on sale May 30 and the Ceramic Edition will go on sale from May 8 in Europe.
The easiest way to get your hands on one of these new watches is through Huawei’s website (Titanium Edition / Ceramic Edition), although they’re also available through select retail partners such as Amazon and Currys in the UK.
According to the market, those who pre-order will also receive a pair of Huawei FreeBuds Pro, in ceramic white.
How much does the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro cost?
While one would assume, as with the standard Watch GT 3 range, that the smaller model would be the more affordable of the two case sizes (the 42mm Watch GT 3 starts at just $229.99), I would deceive a lot. Ceramic still commands a high price in watches and that is reflected in the price of this latest Pro series.
- Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition (46mm) with fluoroelastomer strap: 2,488 yen/369 dollars
- Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition (46mm) with a safe bet: ¥2,688/$369
- Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition (46mm) with titanium strap: $499
- Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Ceramic Edition (43mm) with a value of ¥2,988 / $499
- Huawei Watch GT3 Pro Ceramic Edition (43mm) with ceramic strap: ¥4,688/$599
Admittedly, even the 43mm high-end ceramic edition with ceramic strap falls short of many conventional ceramic watches, so in that context its price is relatively competitive, although it might seem expensive for a smart watch (Also note that the first ceramic Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Edition Series 2, cost $1,449 at launch.)
When the Watch GT 2 Pro was originally launched in China, it was priced at CNY2,188 (around £260/$270, based on 2020 conversion rates).
However, when the company announced the watch for the international market, it was priced at 329 dollars, an increase of almost 22% that Huawei quietly withdrew when it arrived in store, and which cost 299 dollars (just an increase 11% compared to the Chinese price).
What features does the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro offer?
Like the 2020 Watch GT 2 Pro, the main reason to choose the Pro line over the conventional Watch GT 3 series is its design. For starters, unlike the latest GT Pro series, you now have a choice of two sizes, mirroring that of the standard Watch GT 3 duo.
The caveat is that the two luxurious materials these watches are encased in are unique to each case size; the Watch GT 3 Pro Ceramic Edition sports a 43mm (42.9mm) dial, while the larger Titanium Edition is 46mm (46.6mm).
Beyond their reputation as premium brackets, both materials offer a number of similar benefits, including being significantly stronger than stainless steel, hypoallergenic, corrosion resistant and incredibly lightweight.
Both watches also feature a ceramic case back (compared to the standard GT 3 series stainless steel) and a sapphire crystal face (instead of glass), weighing 50g and 54g respectively ( without bracelet), against 35 g and 46.2 g for the standard models.
One of the most notable health features offered by the Watch GT 3 Pro is ECG functionality, something the company implemented in a modified variant of its predecessor, a device that never made its way out of China. The caveat with this competitive addition is that, at least at launch, it’s limited to a select set of markets (China, Indonesia, Peru, Philippines, Russia, El Salvador, Chile, Vietnam, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar, up now) .
