Many of you know that HyperX is one of our favorite brands when choosing gaming devices. We have had the opportunity to test several of their headset models in the past, like the Cloud II Wireless, and now , finally, we will be able to test one of their keyboard models.
The keyboard for a person who plays video games is very important because, among other things, it can determine the accuracy of the game. For this reason, it is important to choose the right model and, much better, to choose a model that specializes in the game. game such as the Alloy Elite 2, which we’ll talk about in depth below.
Pricing and availability
This time we want to start talking about the price so that you get a feel for the budget you will need. In our article on the best gaming keyboards of the moment (in which we will surely end up including this recently tested Alloy Elite 2), you will see that none of the keyboards go below 100 $.
If you want a quality gaming keyboard, this is the base price you should start from. You will see that there are models that total a little over 100 and others that exceed 200. The Alloy Elite 2 remains at $ 159.99, more or less the average.
It is available both on Amazon and on the official HyperX website.
Design, build quality and functionality
As you might expect, we find a classic design from the world of gaming. When turned off, it looks like a sturdy keyboard, with a tough construction (surely it’ll be a heavy-duty keyboard) thanks to its steel frame.
The mechanical RGB keys have a translucent base thanks to which one can see the colored lights in operation when turned on. As we are facing a mechanical keyboard, the keys stick out, which is normal.
We are dealing with keys in ABS, that is to say in Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, which means that they are made of the material most used for this type of device. It is also often used for computer chassis or some mouse cases. It’s a tough material that shows us once again that this is a keyboard model that promises to last a long time.
It is a very complete keyboard, with its digital part, and a multimedia bar that will allow you to quickly control different playing modes. It also comes with a wheel to control the volume.
After the solid metal base of this keyboard which undoubtedly gives it that high-end finish that one would expect from HyperX, we find ourselves facing some switches that the brand has called HyperX Red Switches. That way, they didn’t have to rely on third parties to be able to manufacture their own technology. These HyperX switches achieve 1.8mm of travel, which is more than the 2mm on average for other keyboards. (The stroke is the distance between the button at rest and the button fully pressed).
Path is very important in video game keyboards because it has a lot to do with the accuracy of the game. Also remember that this is a mechanical keyboard, which also adds accuracy compared to membrane keyboards.
These keys are now HyperX Pudding Keycaps, that is to say they will offer more brightness and also use a double layer which will make them more resistant. It is very noticeable when you turn on the keyboard, the brightness of the RGB light is certainly impressive.
The cable, made of braided wire, also deserves a special mention, which once again contributes to that feel of a high-end keyboard with great durability. This is a 1.8 meter long cable, a fairly standard measurement that will be more than sufficient.
Usage, software and connectivity
Regarding the use of the keyboard, we can say that it has excellent performance. It’s a precise keyboard, as you would expect from a mechanical keyboard, with incredible responsiveness.
It’s a comfortable keyboard to use, the keys are the perfect size and layout so they can be used by any type of hand. My hands are quite small and the keyboard is very comfortable to use.
If you’ve never used a mechanical keyboard before, you’ll need to get used to the noise. Personally, it’s a sound that I like, it makes me feel a more real feeling when writing, even if it’s a matter of taste.
The keyboard is useful both for work (I used it to write this article) and, of course, for gaming as well. It is therefore a fairly dynamic keyboard even if it has been exclusively designed to work perfectly in a gaming environment.
On the other hand, as you may have imagined, you can configure different functions of the keyboard thanks to its Ngenuity software. It is possible to create different profiles depending on the game you choose, although as a failure in this keyboard we found that instead of 5 different profiles like in other similar keyboards the Alloy Elite 2 does not give you allows you to store only three profiles.
However, you can configure each of the keys individually since each of them has its own lighting system.
It is a fairly complete software, very characteristic of this type of professional gaming keyboard that will surely not disappoint you.
Regarding connectivity, the keyboard comes with a cable which, like most keyboards of this type, cannot be disconnected. You have to understand that this is a keyboard designed to be fixed on a desk and to be used for many hours, so the issue of Bluetooth connectivity is something that in this case is irrelevant. ‘importance. A good cable, with a good connection, is what is needed in this type of device and HyperX gives it to us.
The keyboard is quite versatile in terms of connectivity, it comes on the one hand with a USB 2.0 connector that must be connected to the computer for the keyboard to work and on the other hand an additional USB passthrough port. This port will be used for multitasking needs, such as connecting memories or even microphones.
Final verdict
The HyperX Alloy Elite 2 keyboard launched in the middle of last year, and to this day it’s still a great option to buy. The first thing that stands out about this keyboard is its powerful build quality with a steel frame that makes this keyboard a good investment: it promises to last a long time.
On the other hand, the keys incorporate HyperX technology which allows a very good response speed. It is a mechanical keyboard, which makes its use precise and comfortable, suitable for playing as well as for work.
Regarding the price-performance ratio, it offers a very good quality, it is a premium keyboard designed for video games, however, its price is average, it is not one of the cheapest high-end gaming keyboards, but not the most expensive either.
It is a great option to buy.
