Huawei has announced a new foldable tablet tablet hybrid, and everything I can think of is: why did an Android tablet manufacturer arrive first?
The Huawei Matebook Fold Ultimate has been unveiled in China, and it is an authentic beauty.
Taking the form of an 18 -inch tablet which can fall back in two to become a 13 -inch laptop of 1.16 kg (with virtual keys on the lower part), it seems to be productivity and the multimedia device for changing ultimate shape.
The key to the success of foldable tablets
Not that my initial response to this new device was completely positive. In fact, it was closer to “it's cool, but you will write my tactile keys with my cold and dead hands”.
No one really does a real job on a touch screen. Not this geriatric millennium, in any case.
But I don't need to be so disdainful prematurely. It turns out that the Huawei Matebook Fold Ultimate can be used as a complete productivity power, which takes place at a full 18 -inch size and supporting itself with its integrated stand. You can then take out the personalized wireless keyboard 5 mm thick and 290 g and use it to type.
And what beauty this 18 -inch display seems to be. It is a double layer oled, which we have already seen on the iPad Pro M4, which means that it is super brilliant (1,600 nits) and vibrant. It also features a high resolution of 3296 x 2472 – it is not much timid of 4K.

Why we need an Android version of the Matebook Fold Ultimate
We do not yet know the chip that feeds this hybrid device (although there are 32 GB of RAM and an SSD of 1 TB or 2 TO), and which could prove the bonding point. Huawei has been seriously hampered by Western sanctions with regard to the performance of its devices in recent years.
This simply reinforces the feeling that a first manufacturer of Android – Samsung or Google, perhaps – should have really offered a similar product now.
Imagine a foldable version of the Google Pixel tablet operating on the optimized Android skin of Google, or even Chromeos. It could be the device that ultimately brought Google to the Android tablets market significantly.
Even more mystifying is the absence of an equivalent of Samsung. We know that the company has experienced such foldable tablet technology for years now, and it has set up the Dex Hybrid Desktop OS in place.
Huawei
Enter Apple (possibly)
It is not too late for such a manufacturer to arrive with his own socket on a foldable tablet, of course. For all the attraction of Huawei's equipment, its continuous problems with the American authorities mean that it will never make a breach in the Western markets with such a device.
Apple is a key player who could offer a convincing vision of this form factor. The rumor wants the company to have such a product on its output list.
As we came to appreciate it, where Apple goes, other major manufacturers tend to follow. However, with a release date of the rumor of “from here 2028”, the concept of Huawei may reach its full potential, and it's a shame.
