Intel has dominated the processor industry with an iron fist, courtesy of AMD, for several decades, but it never showed any interest in the graphics card field until relatively recently. Intel’s first foray into dedicated graphics was the Arc Alchemist, a graphics card that had very little success in the market due to its poor performance.
While it is true that it is doing everything possible to improve its performance through driver updates, this remains well below the solutions currently offered by NVIDIA, which dominates the market with an 80% share, and by AMD . Both manufacturers offer versions of their models for portable devices, which, according to YouTube MLID, Intel will not offer with the new Battlemage graphics line.
A few weeks ago we published a report with the supposed Intel graphics roadmap, a roadmap that, according to this same YouTuber it had nothing to do with reality and where it was emphasized that the new Battlemage Arc would see the light of day between late 2023 and early 2024.
The latest news regarding Intel’s graphics card roadmap indicates that the new Arc Battleimage will only be available available for desktopsnothing about laptops, this information was obtained thanks to a leaked document dated December 11, being the latest update regarding Intel’s line of Arc graphics cards.
This doesn’t mean that the next generation of Battleimage, called Celestial, or the next generation, called Druid, won’t be available on mobile devices. According to MILD, Intel is most likely facing consumption problems higher than expected in the version for laptops and, to avoid further delaying the launch of the second generation, it would have decided to eliminate the version for laptops of this new generation while it solves the problems of consumption and focus on desktop computers, where they are really the bulk of sales.
As we can see from the image above, taken from the MILD video, it will only be available for desktops and workstations and there will be no availability for laptops. You can also read that it will have a length of 20.32 cm (8 inches) and that it will be compatible with PCIe Gen 5.0 x16.
The first generation of Intel Arc graphics, the Alchemist, uses the Xe HPG architecture and is manufactured in 6 nanometers by TSMC. The Arc Intel Battlemagewhose launch is scheduled for 2024 (although given the continuous dance of dates, we cannot rely on this date) uses the Xe 2 HPG architecture and is also manufactured in 4 nanometers by TSMC.
The third generation of Intel graphics, called Celestial, should initially arrive on the market in 2026, with Xe3 HPG architecture and manufactured by TSMC in 3 nanometers. We will have to wait until the end of 2027 for the launch of the fourth generation, Druidwhich uses a new architecture and should be an important turning point for Intel if it really wants to succeed in the graphics field.
