After several years of minor updates, the team Surface Pro 8 Presented last year, it brought us great novelties in the market of what are considered hybrid laptops or 2-in-1 equipment due to their great versatility. That said, we wonder what the Surface Pro 9 will offer.
Among the novelties introduced in the latest version, it is worth mentioning the use of a larger screen with thinner borders and with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. In addition, it also guarantees a longer battery life longer and the use of improved cameras.
It was one of the first Microsoft PCs to run the new Windows 11 operating system and, as tradition dictates, it also got its usual upgrade to a new generation of Intel Core processors.
When will Surface Pro 9 be released?
Microsoft hasn’t confirmed a successor to the Surface Pro 8, let alone a possible launch date. Without big rumors that run through the network, to predict if a possible launch we will look at the dates with which the previous generations were launched:
- Surface Pro 8 – October 2021
- Surface Pro 7+ (for business and education) – January 2021
- Surface Pro 7 – October 2019
- Surface Pro 6 – October 2018
- Surface Pro 5 – June 2017
Beyond the 2022 model which was hit hard by the pandemic, it looks like Microsoft is following a fairly regular pattern of updating its flagship gear. This allows us to likely see the Surface Pro 9 in the month of October 2022, although this is speculation.
How much will the Surface Pro 9 cost?
Again, our best estimate of the cost of the new Surface Pro 9 is to look at Microsoft’s recommended retail prices (RSP) for previous models:
- Surface Pro 8: from $999
- Surface Pro 7+: from $899
- Surface Pro 7: from $849
- Surface Pro 6: from $999
- Surface Pro 5: from $899
As you can see, the price of the Surface Pro has fluctuated over the past few years. The Pro 8’s price increase reflects several key upgrades, but its successor will likely remain in the same price range.
Remember that this price does not include the keyboard type coverage of $149.99, nor the digital pen Microsoft Pen from $109.99.
What specs and features will the Surface Pro 9 have?
Microsoft only released the Surface Pro 8 for Business in January 2022, along with new, slightly more expensive 4G/LTE models. Although the company is likely working on the Pro 9 at the time of writing, there are no concrete rumors yet.
However, unless Microsoft surprises us with some bigger changes, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. The most likely upgrade is to move to Intel’s new 12th Gen processors, a choice between Core i5 and i7 once again.
With the Ryzen 6000 series also launching at CES 2022, it would be nice to see an alternative with AMD chips in the Surface Pro 9, but there’s no sign of that happening anytime soon.
Assuming the Pro 9 switches to Alder Lake processors, its new hybrid architecture includes specific cores for performance and power efficiency. The latter should benefit from the battery life, so Microsoft could beat “the 16 hours” offered by the current Pro 8.
If the battery capacity also increases, we could see other big improvements. Surface Pro is the Windows device with the most votes for Microsoft to make it the device with 5G connectivity.
By the end of 2022, the technology will be widely adopted on a variety of mobile devices (both smart phones How? ‘Or’ What tablets) so it makes sense to see her in the 2-in-1 team more prime from Microsoft.
If we take a look at the current Surface Pro 8, we find that it has Thunderbolt 4 compatible USB-C ports to ensure fast data transfer. They can be used for charging, but the magnetic charging cable is used with the proprietary Surface Connect port.
This tends to be more frustrating than helpful, so expect Microsoft to abandon it and fully embrace USB-C charging on the Surface Pro 9. Adding a few more ports wouldn’t hurt either. , although you can always turn to hub adapters and hubs.
The 13-inch 2880 x 1920 resolution display is unlikely to change, especially after Microsoft introduced the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate on the Surface Pro 8.
There’s no need for a higher resolution, but it would be nice if the PixelSense (LCD) display was replaced with an OLED-like panel. This would pave the way for the addition of an in-display fingerprint sensor, but there’s no indication it’s coming to the Pro 9.
But could the Surface Pro 9 merge with Surface Pro X This year? That’s what you suggested Zac Bowden of Windows Central, since there are now very few differences between them. The only change Microsoft made in 2021 was the addition of a Wi-Fi option, and the Pro 8 now looks remarkably similar.
It would be easy to implement, just by adding additional configurations that use an ARM-based chip instead of Intel. This would be the perfect opportunity to add 5G support at the same time, especially if it’s based on Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.
However, despite Bowden’s track record in predicting Surface launches, this is just his opinion and not based on any inside information or anything confirmed by other experts online.
Judging by a video on the official channel of Surface YouTube, it looks like Microsoft is adopting the new European “Right to Repair It Yourself” rules. The video in question refers to the education-focused Surface Laptop SE, but hopefully that’s a sign of things to come.
This information that we have disclosed so far about the new Surface Pro 9 is mostly based on guesswork, but leaks and rumors are likely to emerge as its launch date approaches. Until then, we will update this article.
