I love a good flip phone. Maybe I am too influenced by the nostalgia for the classic combinations of the 2000s, but something about them is always so cool for me.
In the era of modern folding phone, two brands dominate the Conversation Flip Phone: Samsung and Motorola. The latter may not have the same influence as his Korean counterpart, but undoubtedly has the upper hand with regard to the devices.
Last year, we ranked Razr 50 Ultra, not the Galaxy Z Flip 6, like the best Flip phone of the year. In 2025, Motorola introduced a multitude of upgrades for the new RAZR 60 Ultra which allows it to compete with non -folding flagship phones, at least on the specifications sheet.
And above all, the practical time with the 60 Ultra at the launch event in New York suggests that Motorola has extended its advance as the best flip phone you can buy. Here are the six biggest things I have learned on the phone so far.
What a finish
Unique telephone finishes are nothing new for Motorola, but the Razr 60 Ultra brings things to the next level.
There are four to choose, with the highest point being “scarab”, a magnificent Alcantara finish to which I was immediately drawn. This is the first time that we have seen the material used on a phone, and I hope it is the first of many – the soft fabric is the perfect antidote of a metal or plastic phone. However, it attracts more dust and dirt than most phones.
The “Mountain Trail” is just as catchy, which is made from FSC certified wood. I love the fact that natural materials are used on phones, and it is a surprisingly practical choice, adding adherence and additional layer of useful protection. It also looks really cool.

Downragrade of the camera? Spot
For many people, camera equipment on the Razr 60 Ultra will be less than Razr 50 Ultra from last year. While the 50 MP's main rear lens remains, Motorola replaced the 50 MP 2x telephoto lens with an ultrairs of 50MP.
Of course, the field of vision at 122 degrees is useful, and the initial tests suggest that the image quality is largely in line with the main objective. But at the cost of a real zoom capacity? It is not a compromise that most people would be ready to do.
However, Motorola has a solution …
The company claims that it can use Moto AI and its photo improvement engine to offer a 2x optical zoom effect using the main objective. I was skeptical, but after trying it, I can confirm that 2x shots are almost identical quality at 1x. Suddenly, the absence of telephoto lens does not feel like a big problem.
And with the addition of the ultrawide, which also allows detailed close -up macro photos, the RAZR 60 Ultra camera system is much more versatile than its predecessor. I am not saying that it will be able to compete with the best camera phones, but the first signs indicate a good upgrade rather than a degradation.
Integrated AI, literally
In 2025, artificial intelligence was not new. In many ways, the new motorcycle has appeared on the Razr 60 Ultra represents Motorola catching up the competition.
However, something you won't find on any other phone is a physical button dedicated to functionality. The AI motorcycle key is located on the left side of the aircraft, offering easy access to the functionalities of the company's AI.
Although I am not a big fan of AI on telephones, offering such easy access to key features is much more logical than hiding it. People will end up using Moto AI, which includes really useful features.
Existing features such as Catch Me Up (summarize the calls and missed notifications), be careful (start audio recording and transcription) and remember (capture of screenshots, photos and notes for a subsequent reminder) can all be useful.
However, Next Move puts the features of intelligent AI before and in the center. It can recognize the content on your screen and offer intelligent suggestions, whether it is a question of saving key details or looking more via the integration of AI perplexity.
You can also use it to create Gen Ai Car Chatgpt images and its rivals can in image studio, or even a tailor -made selection of songs via Playlist Studio. During my demo, according to Move has created a hilarious reading list based on a recipe for garlic butter salmon.
Next to the dedicated button, Moto AI can be triggered using visual contact or your voice in stand or tent modes, allowing real hands -free interaction.
TRUE PHARE PERFORMANCE
Although Razr Flip Phones has always offered solid performance, they were generally a step compared to the last and larger ones with regard to the chipset. The Razr 50 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3, for example, and the original foldable Razr in 2019 had the embarrassing problem of managing a mid -range snapdragon 710.
However, this is not the case with the Razr 60 Ultra. He uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the high -end Qualcomm chip, plus a generous 16 GB of RAM. Performance during my practical time have been predictable excellent, and I suspect that it could also be a powerful game device.
This means that RAZR can finally compete with the Galaxy Z Flip with regard to performance.
Dust protection … in a way
One of the key design defects of Razr 50 Ultra was its total lack of dust resistance. The IPX8 rating protected it against submersion in water, but not the solid particles.
This was considerably improved on the 60 Ultra, which was upgraded to IP48. This officially protects it against objects greater than 1 mm, although it stops unless the IP68 is seen on many non -folding phones. I still would not recommend taking it to the beach.

None of the screens on the RAZR 60 Ultra offers major upgrades. The external coverage screen remains a 4 -inch and 165 Hz potential, while the internal AMOLED screen is slightly larger at 7 inch and also 165 Hz.

However, during my practical time, I could not ignore how good the panels were. The two offer the rich and vibrant colors and the deep blacks that we have come to associate with the OLED, while the complete HD + resolutions guarantee that the details are always excellent.

I would be very happy to use the displays for everything, to make up for the news with the look of YouTube videos and even to play.
Don't forget the battery!
Of course, I could not test this during the practical period, but Motorola was not shy when it comes to upgrading the Razr 60 Ultra battery.
It is equipped with a 4700mAh cell, compared to 4000mAh on the 50 Ultra. It is a massive increase, especially when the battery life was already decent. I really hope that it could mean two days on a single load, at least in these days of non -heavy use.
The load also received a good help, with wired speeds from 45 to 68W. Motorola claims that you can get enough power for one day after only eight minutes, although it is not clear what percentage of battery that is equivalent to.

There is no charger in the box, but it is hardly surprising for a 2025 phone. Meanwhile, the wireless wireless load 30W and 5W inverted makes Razr 60 Ultra an impressive versatile.
As you can see, my first impressions of the Razr 60 Ultra are very positive. If it is a similar story throughout my tests, it is probably easy to recommend.
However, the start-up price of £ 1,099.99 (US price TBC) makes it more expensive in the United Kingdom than £ 1049 / $ 1,099.99 Galaxy Z Flip 6. Sales will start from April 24 in selected countries.
