From 2020 to the present day, we have faced and encountered very unexpected situations. Currently, it is essential to have a computer at home for everything or at least a smartphone. For this reason, there has been a high demand due to the pandemic which, at the same time, has forced the closure of factories.
Complicated situation in a busy market
It cannot be said that only the pandemic affected the sale of new components. With the exception of SSD and RAM memory, we have seen how the rest of hardware has gone up in price. The product whose price rose the most was graphics cards and, in particular, those from NVIDIA. If the situation was already complicated, the increase in the cost of hardware makes it more difficult for the user to update.
IDC, a renowned market research company, has released a new report on PC sales. According to the report, for this year 2023 some are esteemed Computer sales next to 260 million units. In 2022, some 290 million systems were sold, representing a drop in sales of 30 million PCs, equivalent to a sales down 10.7%.
It should be noted that the big blow will not be carried by the PC market, but by the tablet market. The report speaks of a sales forecast of 124 million units, a decrease of 12% compared to 2022.
Coming back to the PC market, it should be noted that in In 2021, more than 350 million teams have been sold.
Indirectly, this data affects other component manufacturers, such as ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock, EVGA, etc. The most affected are Corsair, Kingston, Samsung, Crucial and other SSD and RAM manufacturers. We cannot forget peripheral manufacturers such as Logitech, Newskill, Corsair and many others who will also be affected.
That the trees do not prevent you from seeing the forest
It is true that the data is negative, but we come from a market with “artificial” sales. Computer sales surrealistically increased due to a certain event that happened. We are now in the aftermath, a sharp drop that takes us into a worse period than before the anomalous event.
Before the PC market returns to a normal situation, we will find worse data than before COVID-19. A few weeks ago it was reported that the sale of graphics cards recorded the worst data of 2010. There are two factors here, the drop in sales and the absurd prices of these components.
Really, brands have made a lot of money for an unexpected situation. In 2024, a normalization of computer sales is expected, or even an increase. One reason is that in 2024 Windows 10 operating system will be discontinued by Microsoft.
Note that the Windows 12 operating system will be launched by 2024 or, at the latest, in 2025. It will be accompanied by new artificial limitations and restrictions seeking to force the user to update his computer.
