Nothing has abandoned a software update for the Nothing phone (3A) and nothing mid -range smartphones (3A) pro, and it gives the essential key to the ability it always seemed to have been designed for … a little.
In the community blog post which accompanies the deployment of Nothing OS 3.1, the company boasts that “the big news is that the essential key now works in the Nothing Camera application”.
So, is it the update that transforms the essential key into the shutter of the camera that we wrongly assume that it was before the launch? Not quite, but it's a start. Allow us to explain.

What nothing is os 3.1 for the application of the camera
Nothing of bone 3.1 does not so much transform the essential key into an button on the shutter of the camera that it extends the essential space function existing in the application of the camera.
You always press the essential key to capturing what is on the screen and keeping the button to set a voice note that accompanies it. This information is always sent to the AI ”Essential Space” application.
It's just that this function now works in the live camera application, capturing what is currently framed in the viewfinder. It is in itself a powerful expansion of the concept of essential space, exposing the content of the real world alongside all the online content which it had previously cataloged.
And, yes, this technically allows you to use the practical essential key button to take photos, even if it is still well below the complete treatment of the iPhone 16 camera.

What does nothing other than OS 3.1 add?
Aside from these new capacities of essential keys to the useful camera application, nothing OS 3.1 adds adjustments and welcome fixes.
The application of the camera has been improved, which makes the operation of the zoom more intuitive, correcting the selfies, improving the white balance on the scenes inside and erases the backlit portraits.
For the Nothing (3A) phone specifically, nothing improved the precision of the focusing at 2x.
When I used the Nothing (3A) Pro phone, I found that the camera application was somewhat slow. Fortunately, nothing seems to have tackled this with “the overall performance and responsiveness of the faster camera”. I only spent a few minutes with the update, but it certainly seems to be a smoother camera experience at first glance.
Far from the camera, nothing has optimized the essential space, improved the AOD animations and carried out the general baking pass of bugs that you expect from any update of the firmware.
Nothing OS 3.1 is available for download for the phone nothing (3A) and (3A) pro now.
