More details have been leaked about the upcoming OnePlus Open 2 foldable phone.
According to 9to5Google, the new phone will be based on Oppo's Find N5, with both companies owned by Chinese giant BBK. This device features a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in an IPX8-certified chassis, which means it can survive submersion in up to 1m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.
This is a significant improvement over its predecessor, the OnePlus Open, whose chassis was IPX4 certified and therefore only tested against splashing water.
However, it should be noted that the “X” refers to dust protection, meaning that small objects and particles (like sand on the beach) can still cause damage. But having an IP rating is impressive for a foldable, considering its complex moving parts.
According to the new information, the Open 2 will also have a 50MP telephoto lens and an “anti-drop body structure”, which supposedly refers to the sturdy hinges and design.
