The Samsung Galaxy Ring was Samsung's first smart ring and an impressive first-generation effort that gave smart ring fans a solid alternative to the much-loved Oura Ring.
It offered a nice design and a portable charger, good battery life, and solid overall tracking without needing a paid subscription to get the most out of it. Overall, this was our favorite smart ring of 2024.
We expect the Galaxy Ring's successor, the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2, to be in the offing and should build on the good work Samsung has already done with its first smart ring.
Here's what we know so far about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Ring.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 be released?
The Samsung Galaxy Ring was first revealed in January 2024 before being shown behind glass at MWC 2024 a month later. Its official launch finally took place on July 10, 2024.
It appears that Samsung could be planning a similar schedule with speculation that the Galaxy Ring 2 will make an appearance at Samsung's Unpacked 2025 event on January 22 alongside the Galaxy S25 series of phones.
This could indicate that Samsung will take a similar reveal and launch approach for its first ring and make us wait until summer to make its second-generation ring available for purchase.
However, it's possible that it will work quickly on the Ring 2 and put it on sale sooner than the original.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 cost?
Until Samsung is ready to officially talk about the Galaxy Ring 2, it's a bit of a guessing game on the price of the Galaxy Ring 2.
We think Samsung will likely stick to a subscription-free model, meaning you'll have to pay just for the ring. The first Galaxy Ring was priced at £399/$399.99, making it one of the most expensive smart rings available.
It would be surprising if Samsung raised the price of the Ring 2, unless it decided to go the luxury route like Oura did, when it collaborated with Guuci and launched a premium version of its Ring 3. This collaboration pushed the price towards the £1,000/$1,000 mark.
There's also the recently announced UItrahuman Rare which starts at £1,500, but it seems much more likely that Samsung will appeal to the masses.

What specifications and features will the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 have?
There has already been speculation about what to expect from the upcoming Galaxy Ring 2, but we can analyze the competition to get an idea of what might be coming for Samsung's second-generation smart ring to make sure 'he's always competing with the competition.
More sizes
Like all smart rings, a good fit is integral to collecting the most accurate data from your finger.
It had been suggested by popular leaker Max Jambor that the original Galaxy Ring would get additional sizes in 2025, with Samsung expected to add size 14 and size 15 ring options.
DigiTimes now suggests that these new sizes are being prepared for the Galaxy Ring 2. Adding these ring sizes would give the Samsung 11 in total, one size option less than the Oura Ring 4.
Longer battery life
Although Samsung has already offered considerably better battery life than the Oura Ring in our testing, it's actually not the smart ring with the best battery life performance.
That honor goes to the RingConn Gen 2 (although the recently announced Luna Ring Gen 2 touts 30 days).
Coupled with new ring sizes, Samsung could look to increase the battery further and match what's better to give you another reason to choose it over the also cheaper and more RingConn smart ring thin.

ECG
The current Galaxy Ring already offers optical heart rate monitoring, but given that rival smart ring maker Circular has since launched its Circular Ring 2 with an ECG capable of detecting signs of atrial fibrillation, this could be a rival feature that Samsung might consider. match.
Samsung has included an ECG sensor on its Galaxy Watches for a few generations now and could also consider adding it to its Ring, which would increase its health monitoring appeal.
Sleep apnea detection
One of the most compelling reasons to choose a smart ring over a smart watch is that it's much more comfortable and discreet to lay in and track your sleep. Sleep tracking performance on the Galaxy Ring is also pretty solid.
Samsung revealed in 2024 that the latest Samsung Galaxy Watches received De Novo clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its sleep apnea feature. This feature can detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea when monitoring sleep over two nights.
This is a feature that doesn't appear on any other smart ring, so it would be a big win for Samsung if they manage to add it to its latest ring.
What we want to see from the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2
We've given you an idea of what to expect from the next Galaxy Ring, but if we had a list of things we'd like to see announced when Samsung makes that big reveal, what would be on it?
Here's what's at the top of that list:
A slimmer, more attractive design
Don't get me wrong, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is a nice, smart ring and more scratch-resistant than its competitors, but in terms of being mistaken for a real ring, it's not there yet.
For starters, it could benefit from a slimmer body, bringing it more in line with thinner smart rings like the RingConn Gen 2 and the latest Oura Ring. The titanium finish on some models makes the ring look more plastic than metallic, so we'd like to see the Galaxy Ring 2 evolve into something that looks and feels higher quality.
Some additional color options would also be helpful. Currently, there are silver, black, and gold, which seem to be the go-to smart ring shades. We wouldn't mind Samsung trying something a little different with these color options to help the Galaxy Ring 2 stand out for the right reasons.

Improved companion app
The Galaxy Ring uses the same companion apps as Samsung's Galaxy smartwatches and while that makes it easier to manage if you use both the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring together, we'd like to see a more Ring-centric user interface that makes the Galaxy Ring look less like another Samsung wearable.
Whether it's displaying data differently on screen or simply making the experience of using it unique, it would make exploring the app more attractive and engaging when you need to check your stats sleep or progress tracking your daily activity.
More information on general health and well-being
Beyond Samsung's energy scores, the Galaxy Ring was primarily focused on tracking things that other smart rings can do.
What we would like to see is more meaningful information attached to this data. We would like to see recommendations and suggestions to guide us to make better decisions about what we do during the day and before going to bed.
AI could play its role here, but only if it is used in a truly effective and personalized way.
That's all for the Galaxy Ring 2 so far, but we'll update this article when there are new rumors or official news.
