If you have a Samsung TV, you may be able to get an even better quality image of your Netflix subscription, thanks to a free software upgrade.
From now on, TVs and smart monitors of the brand's television series and films with HDR10 +support. In simple terms, this technology offers higher contrast and brightness, with real colors and details.
However, this upgrade is not available on all Samsung televisions and monitors – it is for 2025 Samsung Neo Qled, Oled and Lifestyle TVS, and the 2025 and 2024 monitors. As a result, if you have an older television than this year, or an older monitor than last year, you will not have this new HDR10 + Netflix feature moment.
But that does not mean that it will not go further …
Taeyong Son, executive vice-president of the visual display company at Samsung Electronics, gave the following estimate in the press release: “We are delighted to bring this technology to 300 million members of Netflix and will continue to collaborate with various partners to extend the HDR10 + support in our range of products and the wider streaming ecosystem.”
According to Techradar, the reason why some televisions are not supported are due to Netflix using the AV1 codec for HDR10 +content, which has not been integrated into certain older models of Samsung.
This website lists some of the titles supported HDR10 + on the platform at the moment, which includes Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Bird Box. The film must indicate whether or not this format is when you click on the page of your Samsung TV.
