The cookie monster, Oscar the Grouch and the rest of the gang leave Max. Sesame Street, The Educational Series and Beloved Cult Classic, found a new house on Netflix.
The agreement between Sesame Workshop, which produces the show, and Netflix follows the announcement of Discovery Warner Bros. That she will not renew her five -year contract to distribute the show on Max (from the summer of 2025: HBO Max). Warner's decision was linked to a change in strategy for its streaming service.
As Max's Spoeperson said (via the Hollywood Reporter):
It was a wonderful and creative experience to work with everyone at Sesame Street on the emblematic children's series and we are delighted to be able to keep part of the series of libraries in Max in the United States. As we have launched Max and according to consumer use and comments, we had to prioritize our concentration on stories for adults and families, and therefore new episodes of Sesame Street, for the moment, are not also at the heart of our strategy.
However, this does not mean that Sesame Street will immediately disappear from Max – the series will be available on the platform until 2027. As expected, the 55th and last season of Sesame Street will be presented on Max.
The old seasons of Sesame Street will appear on Netflix later this year, with season 56 first on service. At this point, the exact dates are unknown – come back to find out more as soon as we know.
According to Sesame Workshop (via Variety):
We are delighted to announce that all the new episodes of “Sesame Street” arrive in Netflix around the world with library episodes, and new episodes will also publish the same day on PBS stations and PBS Kids platforms in the United States, preserving a relationship of 50 years and more. The support of Netflix, PBS and the public dissemination company constitute a unique public-private partnership to allow Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere to become smarter, stronger and nicer.
Kay Wilson Stallings, Executive Vice-President, Director of Creation and Production Manager for Sesame Workshop, revealed that Sesame Street will be redesigned on Netflix. The segments will be longer and the stories more sophisticated, and the show will be enriched with a new animated series, Tales of 123. The Elmo world very appreciated and the gourmet truck segments of Cookie Monster will also return.
It should be noted that Netflix will also develop video games for Sesame Street, as well as for mecha manufacturers from Sesame Street.
Of course, viewers based in the United States will always be able to take episodes of Sesame Street Daily on PBS stations and digital PBS Kids platforms.
