Sonos would have canceled her plans to launch a Rivalling Apple TV 4K streaming box.
Last month, we reported on the news of a major launch of Sonos in a brand new product category later this year. Development would have been DAR, the product having spent months in beta tests.
However, The Verge now reports that Sonos has completely canceled the project. Apparently, the leaders of Sonos announced the news during a company call all the hands held yesterday.
What was Sonos Pinewood's project?
The product called in -house Pinewood must have been a high -end video streaming device that would compete on the Apple TV 4K streamer, the Google TV streamer and the Roku Stick 4K Roku.
It would have looked like an indefinable black square no thicker than a card game.
In addition to boast of the usual HDR 4K HDR reading chops, Pinewood would have presented a unified user interface that has drawn content from all usual streaming services. He would have had a powerful universal research system and vocal control of Sonos for easy navigation.
Where Sonos' streaming box would really have stood out from the crowd, it is with its alleged HDMI Passthrough functionality. Apparently, you could have connected your game console, your Blu-ray player and other devices connected in the Sonos box, which was then going to pose on the wireless audio without lag with sound bars and sound speakers.
He could even have configured a complete surround sound system from sound speakers.

Why did Sonos cancel his streaming box?
While the project was originally informed by former CEO Patrick Spence, the acting CEO Tom Conrad would have a different opinion.
In particular, Conrad would focus on strengthening the essential elements of the company in order to repair its damaged reputation. In particular, the company must still restore faith in its software after the disastrous recovery of the Sonos application.
It seems that the team working on Pinewood will now be reassigned to other Sonos projects, with a push in the video that would be out of the “for now” table.
All this means that there will probably be no big launch of Sonos in 2025, the last launch of the company having been the Sub Gen 4 Sonos and Arc Ultra in October 2024.
