There are a lot of wild conceptual devices exposed to the MWC 2025, but none surprised me as much as the TECNO Ultimate 2 tripolar phone. Not because it is a double -hole foldable (I just spent a week with the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, after all – to look for my full exam soon) but because of its dimensions.
Like the last of Huawei, the phone has a single large format screen and it folds in Z -fit to quickly do without a spacious tablet in a pocket smartphone. The Mate XT is already the thinnest foldable that I have ever used when it is unfolded, and I was not sure that it was possible to go thinner, but we are there.
Trap
The Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 is only 11 mm when it is folded, while the Mate XT is 12.8 mm. It is even thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which has only one hinge and a lean display of 7.6 inch.
It should be noted that the Tecno Tri-Fold has a slightly smaller display than the Huawei, arriving at 10 inches rather than 10.2 inches. But it is a very impressive feat, and in both cases, it is incredible that you can integrate it into your pocket.
The biggest difference, however, is that the Tecno device is only a concept, while the Huawei tripoll can be bought worldwide. It remains to be seen if the Phantom Ultimate 2 will obtain an appropriate launch, but if this is the case, I bet it is much cheaper than Huawei's offer. Tecno is known for his aggressive prices, and I doubt that he would have too much trouble reducing the PDSF by 3499 $ from Huawei.
Trap
Unfortunately, the other big problem with the Mate XT is not resolved. This phone uses a very similar design, which leaves the fragile folding screen exposed at any time. So if you are clumsy at all, it will not be the phone for you.
Slimness was a bit of a theme for Tecno at the MWC 2025. The brand also presented its Spark Slim conceptual device, a traditional bar style smartphone which is only 5.75 mm thick. Despite this, the phone contains a large 5200 mAh battery and a flashy lit camera module.
If you hate the curved pockets, Tecno could be a brand to watch in the future. Unfortunately, it is still rare in Europe, but society has made progress in Africa and Southeast Asia. If he continues to make phones attracting attention like this, I would not be surprised if he became much more popular.
