Like it or not, back-to-school season is just around the corner. While you may be focused on buying new supplies and tech to help you get through those tough classes and long lectures, there’s another key area you need to be aware of: streaming.
Students have access to many discounted packages for music, movie and TV platforms, allowing you to get all your entertainment for less and put that money towards groceries and/or pub nights.
With that in mind, here are the best deals and discounts you can get on streaming services if you’re a student.
Amazon Prime Video
- Original price: £8.99/$14.99 per month
- Reduced price: Six months free, then £4.49/$7.49 per month
One of the biggest discounts available to students is a six-month free trial of an Amazon Prime membership, which includes access to the streaming library. Once the free period is over, you still get half the price of a standard membership for four years.
Amazon Prime Video has some great original series, including The Boys, Good Omens, My Lady Jane, and The Rings of Power. Plus, there are plenty of syndicated series and hit movies like The Office and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
But best of all, with a Prime membership, you don’t just get streaming. You’ll also get free next-day delivery, music streaming, access to flash sales, and more. You can learn more about the benefits of Prime here.
You must be between 18 and 22 years old and provide proof of student membership through platforms such as NUS, UNiDAYS and more.

Spotify Premium
- Original price: £11.99/$11.99 per month
- Reduced price: £5.99/$5.99 per month
If ad-free music and downloads are important to you, Spotify is offering a generous savings on its Premium subscription.
You will need to study at an accredited academic institution and submit proof via SheerID using verified documents to prove your status.
Spotify Premium Student includes music and podcasts, but not audiobooks. All your benefits will last for four years in total.

YouTube Premium
- Original price: £12.99/$13.99 per month
- Reduced price: £7.99/$7.99 per month
YouTube is another service that you can get ad-free and offline. A Premium subscription also lets you listen to videos with your phone locked, which is great if you use the platform to listen to music or video essays.
This student discount is nearly 50% off a full subscription and lasts for four years in total, giving you plenty of vlogging, gaming, and all sorts of other videos to enjoy. If you’re not sure if this subscription is worth it, don’t worry: you still get a month of free trial before you pay anything.
Note that this is a different subscription than YouTube Music Premium.

Apple Music and TV+
- Original price: £10.99/$10.99 per month for Apple Music and £8.99/$8.99 for Apple TV+
- Reduced price: £5.99/$5.99 per month for Apple Music and free Apple TV+
If you prefer Apple Music over Spotify (perhaps if you’re an iPhone user), you can get half off a subscription for up to four years. But wait, there’s more.
This deal also includes a subscription to Apple TV+, worth £8.99/$8.99 per month. With this, you can watch series like Severance, Ted Lasso and The Morning Show.
Apple TV+ may not have a huge streaming library like Prime Video, but it’s also ad-free with no extra cost…for now.

Max
- Original price: $9.99 per month
- Reduced price: $4.99 per month
For back-to-school, streaming service HBO Max has introduced an all-new student tier, cutting its ad-supported tier in half from $9.99 per month to $4.99 per month for a year when you check out with UNiDAYS.
Max offers the best of HBO, including House of the Dragon, Succession and The White Lotus. The channel also has the rights to the latest and greatest films from Warner Bros., including last year’s two biggest films, Barbie and Oppenheimer.
This offer is exclusive to students in the United States.

Peacock
- Original price: $7.99 per month
- Reduced price: $1.99 per month
Using SheerID, students can get Peacock for the low price of $1.99 per month for 12 months.
Peacock is the streaming platform for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, as well as NBC’s top series like The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Poker Face. It also has a great selection of movies, including Mean Girls, Monkey Man, and The Bikeriders.
Starting in September, it will also host Sunday Night Football for the NFL, the perfect event to help you catch up on those early conferences if you’re a sports fan. Peacock is exclusive to the US, so UK readers are not eligible.

Hulu
- Original price: $7.99 per month
- Reduced price: $1.99 per month
US streaming service Hulu offers originals such as Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun, and students can get 75% off an ad-free subscription.
Hulu also offers reality TV series such as Love Island UK and The Kardashians, making it a great choice for comfortable viewing. Again, you’ll need to verify your status via SheerID to sign up – and UK readers aren’t eligible for this deal.
Paramount+
- Original price: $5.99 per month
- Reduced price: $4.50 per month
While this deal isn’t as generous as some on this list, 25% off Paramount+ is still a decent savings.
This streaming platform offers series from the Star Trek universe, the Knuckles TV series, Fire Country and Ghosts US. It is also ideal for sports fans, as a subscription includes the UEFA Champions League, NFL on CBS, CBS Sports Golazo Network and much more.
There is no Paramount+ plan available to UK students at the time of writing.

NFL Sunday Ticket
- Original price: up to $449 per season
- Reduced price: $199 per season
While Peacock and Paramount+ include access to select NFL games, not all are available on those platforms. If you want unfiltered access to more local teams, you’ll need an NFL Sunday Ticket.
For the season, it costs $199. That may seem steep, but keep in mind that the standard price is $349 with YouTube TV, or $449 if you use the standalone service. That also includes multiview, which lets you watch multiple games at once, if that’s your thing.
Only US readers can enjoy the NFL Sunday Ticket.
