Square calls are the scourge of my life. It may be because of my unusual name, or maybe I need to be more careful with my online safety. Anyway, the crooks are getting their hands on my phone number with an alarming frequency.
On most phones, this is a real problem. Whenever I receive a call from an unrecognized number, I fear that it is something important. It is not out of the question that someone could call from their mobile or a fixed line to Manchester, after all.
So, I answer it, then waste far too much of my time trying to determine if the call is authentic. Sometimes it is obvious (HMRC apparently wants to put me in prison for tax fraud), but on other occasions, the appellant seems remarkably convincing.
At best, responding to scam calls is a massive waste of time. At worst, it could really put my identity or my money in danger.
Although most phones have some form of integrated spam detection, they are very delicate. When you recently use the Samsung Galaxy S25 +, it has poorly identified a legitimate caller as spam. It was only after having rejected the call and wanted the online number that I realized that it was authentic.

The call screen can be useful even if it is not a scam call either. Many authentic companies make marketing calls by trying to convince you to buy their products or services, so it is pleasant to be able to separate wheat from the ball.
In the United States, the call screen is even more powerful. It can be defined to automatically filter the calls of anyone who is not in your contact list, listening to signs that it could be a spam call. If the number corresponds to one in the Google database, the call will be refused without you knowing.
It seems great on paper, but I would worry about identifying authentic calls as a spam. I prefer the manual option available in the United Kingdom, which means that I am active in the process. A range of predefined responses and contextual interest responses means that there is still very little work involved.
I did not know how much the call screen I was missing until I go to other Android phones. After spending more than three months using the Pixel 9 Pro XL, I took it for granted.

But after having obtained numerous unwanted reminders how unpleasant scam calls are, I realized what a revolutionary and reterroged functionality call screen really is. Whenever I answer the phone on a pixel, I am convinced that it's worth my time – I can't tell you how good it's.
The call screen is not the only exclusive functionality of the pixels that I like. Now playing is another excellent example – but he has a big problem.
