Not even 24 hours have passed since Intel introduced its new gaming processor and we already have the first records broken with the top of the new processor family, the i9-12900K. That was to be expected but rarely happens with such a short time distance, suggesting that this beastly 6.8 GHz overclock has been brewing for a long time and that they are now presenting the results.
It’s hard for a new architecture that just hit the market not to end up breaking current records, it has happened on some occasions, but it wasn’t going to be one of them. Overclocker Allen “Splave” Golibersuch overclocked his i9-12900K P-Cores and E-Cores to over 30% of their rated speed in Boost. What have you achieved?
XTU 2.0, Geekbench 4 and Geekbench 5 have dropped out
One of the novelties of this series of processors and architecture is the inclusion of the new DDR5 RAM, that is, the bandwidth obtained takes performance to new heights. But that’s not enough on its own, as Splave managed to bring the Golden Cove or P-Cores up to the mentioned 6.8 GHz, while the less inactive Gracemont E-Cores were brought up to 5.3 GHz.
And not only did it stop there, since downloading the cores by itself is not enough if you want maximum performance, so it also managed to increase the speed of the Ring Bus up to 5.5 GHz. These numbers in hearts are in themselves an increase of 31% and 36% in P-Cores and E-Cores, which in percentage is not much, but in frequency it is a lot as we approach the magic number of 7 GHz.
Of course, t he RAM memory has also gone from 4,800 MHz to 6,200 MHz with a CAS of 34. No consumption figure was given, but to give us an idea of the disproportion in this area we had to use a SuperNOVA of 1600. watts logically signed by EVGA.
Overclocked i9-12900K: Single and Multi Thread Recordings
XTU 2.0 is a fairly powerful tool, where its benchmark is quite demanding. Armed with several LN2 Splave tanks, he scored 12,765 points. In Geekbench 4, the scores were 11,669 points in single core and 93,232 points in multi for the 2,740 points and 26,649 points that said processor gave in Geekbench 5.
To give us an idea, the previous scores and records were in this latest benchmark at 2,309 points and 20,929 points, achieved by the i9-11900K and the Ryzen 9 5950X respectively. In percentage terms, that means the new overclocked i9-12900K outperforms the aforementioned rivals at max clocking 19% and 27% respectively.
Although the maximum overclocking is low in all processors, the reality is that Intel suddenly took a very big leap forward, since we almost hit 20% compared to its predecessor and hit almost 30%. % compared to AMD’s best today and in an area where Lisa Su has dominated in recent years with an iron fist. Seen like this, Alder Lake does not seem like a bad architecture, but it will be necessary to wait until November 4th to be more clear on the performance of the new Intel.
