Nowadays, almost all the attention is directed towards flagships and cheaper mobiles, which is why mid-range phones are often forgotten or overlooked.
Now that Xiaomi has launched the new 12T series, the company reminds us that if we throw away the smart phones mid-range, we run a big risk. The standard model offers everything most people need for just $599.
It’s impressive that it even manages to hold its own against the 12T Pro. chipset Dimensity 8100 Ultra can’t outperform Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and is no longer used chipset MediaTek’s flagship product, but still delivering top-level performance.
In my tests so far, I’ve browsed the web, watched videos, multitasked, and taken photos, and there were no slowdowns or stutters. That might change with more demanding games, but the phone isn’t designed for that.
Then there are the cameras. The Xiaomi 12T’s main rear sensor is “only” 108MP, so it won’t grab the headlines like the 12T Pro’s 200MP lens. But higher megapixels don’t automatically mean better photos. It’s hard to tell them apart side-by-side, and you’ll be hard pressed to find better image quality on a device at this price.
Granted, the 8MP ultra-wide lens and 2MP macro lens are far less impressive, but that’s probably not why you’re buying this phone. The selfies the 20 MP front camera is also very good.
Xiaomi didn’t change the 11T’s screen, but it wasn’t necessary. It’s still an excellent 6.67-inch 2712×1220 OLED panel, with a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling. Not only does it deliver a crisp and clear visual experience, but it’s also incredibly smooth and responsive.
Design is something that’s often sacrificed on mid-range phones, but not here. The 12T is a phone primeall glass, but the back coating makes it fingerprint resistant.
I haven’t been able to test the battery life well yet. It has the same 5,000mAh capacity as the 11T, which can last two days if kept at 60Hz. With the improved power efficiency of the Dimensity 8100 Ultra, it could last even longer: Xiaomi claims it can last up to 13.5 hours of screen time.
It also has 120W fast charging. It may be the same as last year’s 11T, but using the adapter included in the box, you can achieve a 0-100% charge in just 19 minutes. There’s no wireless charging, but you probably won’t miss it with such fast wired charging.
The Xiaomi 12T is even more impressive when you take into account the mid-range competition, where performance or cameras are usually of a lower level.
Xiaomi’s “Early Bird” program allows you to reserve the 12T between October 20 and 24 and save you a good amount of money. The value for money is incredible. If you don’t take care of him Software Xiaomi’s MIUI runs on Android, this could be the perfect mid-range phone for you.
