When will Wicked tickets go on sale?

Ghost season is just around the corner, and this year, witches are in the spotlight. After Agatha Harkness and her coven debuted on Disney+, another tale of magic is on the way. Universal Pictures’ Wicked will take you to the land of Oz, telling the true story of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Sound familiar? Of course it does: Wicked is the film adaptation of the musical of the same name, based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. As if that weren’t complicated enough, the book is based on L. Frank Baum’s famous novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. However, Maguire offers a subversive look at his characters while analyzing the theme of evil.

The film will follow a similar path. The main character is Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo), a young woman misunderstood because of her green skin. Upon arriving at Shiz University, she unexpectedly befriends the popular Galinda Upland (Ariana Grande). However, after meeting the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), the two friends take different directions, leading them to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

The Wicked movie will naturally be a musical, so you can expect plenty of captivating melodies depicting this story of good and evil.

When will Wicked tickets go on sale?

Universal Pictures’ new blockbuster will be released in UK cinemas on Monday 18 November 2024.

In the US, Wicked will be released a few days later, on Friday, November 22, 2024. That means the witch tale will compete for audience attention with the highly anticipated Gladiator 2. Ridley Scott’s epic tale will also debut in US theaters on November 22.

Wicked will hit theaters after Halloween, a little before Christmas, and just in time for Thanksgiving. It’s likely to be one of the most hyped premieres of the year.

Based on Universal’s previous releases (like Twisters), tickets will likely be available for reservation a month before the opening day, or around mid-October to end of October 2024.
