With no plentiful stock of DDR5, with the few units and kits at exorbitant prices, ingenuity must prevail if you want the best without being able to buy it as such. Having a Z690 card isn’t too complicated these days, although the fastest memory is, but what if we could fit DDR4 into its slots? Said and done, well, at least it’s doing it because ASUS saw how they filtered an adapter for this purpose.
ASUS DDR5 to DDR4, why wasn’t it released sooner?
Well, we’re guessing the big comparative offense between DDR4 and DDR5 was precisely that, its higher overall performance and launching something like that in principle might be a mistake that memory makers couldn’t tolerate.
The prophecies have come true and now it’s the plate makers who are bowled over by the zero availability, so with the situation not going to change for a few months, ingenuity pays off. What we have on screen is nothing more than a prototype in revision 1.0, although it is perfectly functional and in fact you can see it in the demo video.
This adapter has a high vertical size which makes it impossible to install with some heat sinks, but this is just a review that tries to achieve what no one has done by taking advantage of the Core 12 dual IMC
Possible BIOS issues
Logically, it is an accessory ASUS ROG which should in principle arrive only for said nameplates. Not because it is not compatible with all the others of its competition, since the slot is the same for everyone, but because apparently it must be supported by the motherboard and its BIOS
This would exclude it from the rest, making a very interesting difference at the moment for the user who does not know which model of plate to buy. Additionally and if we look closely, the PCB has four activated holes where, presumably, a 4 pin Molex or SATAWhile this ultimately shouldn’t be seen in the model launched on the market, it’s interesting that ASUS has already thought about it for the prototype.
Logically, there is not even confirmation that this is going to be launched in stores, nor if it will arrive with some models of motherboards, if it can be purchased on its own, there is nothing about it. We’ll see if they reveal anything else at CES 2022.
