What Intel is not going through its best moment, it is something that we all know… between the bad financial results, the announcement of up to 20,000 layoffs (initially there were supposed to be 10,000, but after presenting the results, it turns out that it is double) and that they are now facing a collective claim for the instability in their 13th and 14th generation processors, they are going through one of the worst streaks in their history. But hey, to try to mitigate this a little, the company is now announcing that it is offering two additional years of warranty on its processors
Layoffs and financial results aside, we’ve been talking about instability issues affecting Intel’s 13th and 14th generation Core processors for weeks, with thousands of users affected. So much so that Intel is facing a potential class action lawsuit over the issue, but in the meantime, the manufacturer has released an official statement to say that it is aware of the issue and is extending the warranty on these processors by two more years so that affected (or potentially affected) users can rest easy.
Five-year warranty on Intel processors
Indeed, the CPU is one of the least common hardware components to fail, and in fact, it is generally quite rare for it to fail other than because the user has mishandled it or gone too far trying to overclock it, so the standard 3-year warranty is usually more than enough. However, with the instability issues that have been occurring in two generations of Intel processors, extending this period to 5 years will not be a bad thing at all, especially since Intel accepts RMAs for affected processors.
The fact that Intel accepts RMA me ans that you send them the damaged processor and they will send you a new one without any problem, but news also broke last week that Intel is not going to call all users who own an affected processor and will replace it. In other words: if it breaks or gives you problems, you will be covered, but otherwise, you will be left as you are.
“Intel is committed to ensuring that all customers who are experiencing or experiencing symptoms of instability in their 13th/14th Gen desktop processors are supported through the change process. We stand behind our products and in the coming days we will share more details on the two-year warranty extension for our 13th and 14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors.”
In the meantime, if you are currently experiencing or have ever experienced symptoms of instability on your desktop system:
- For users who purchased an OEM PC, please contact the manufacturer for assistance.
- For users who purchased a separate processor, please contact Intel Customer Service for assistance.
At the same time, we apologize for the delay in communications, as it has been difficult to resolve the issue and find its root cause.”.
