While it's rare for a month to go by with Xbox Game Pass without there being at least something new worth checking out, that's definitely the case had his dry spells in recent years. However, a surprising number of cool new games available through the Netflix-like subscription service were quietly revealed in the second half of January, and several more releases were announced at certain times of day throughout the year Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday2025 looks to be one of the best years yet for the service.

Aside from the occasional third-party blockbuster or a carefully curated lineup of smaller indie games, the true promise of Game Pass has always depended on Microsoft's ability to pump out a steady stream of high-quality first-party releases, which it always would Give paying subscribers something they can play immediately and look forward to just over the horizon. After years of promising that such a pipeline had arrived, it might finally actually be the case.

This is the release calendar for daily Game Pass Ultimate games in 2025 (remember, you need the more expensive membership to access the games at release unless you are using PC):

  • Lonely Mountain: Snow Rider – January 21st
  • Ninja Gaiden 2 Black – January 23rd

  • Orcs must die! Death trap – January 28th

  • Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector – January 31st
  • Date everything – February 14th
  • Explained – February 18th
  • Nuclear fall – Thursday, March 27th
  • Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33 – April 24th
  • South of midnight – April 8th
  • Doom: The Dark Ages – May 15th

  • Mixtape – TBD 2025
  • Subnautica 2 – TBD 2025
  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – TBD 2025
  • FBC: Firebreak – TBD 2025
  • The Outer Worlds 2 – TBD 2025
  • fable – TBD 2025
  • New Call of Duty – TBD 2025

That's an impressive selection of games, spanning a range of different genres and styles, and, barring any unexpected delays, should keep the Game Pass library pretty well stocked for the next 12 months. And that's even before taking into account games whose release dates haven't been announced yet, and games that we already know are coming but whose Game Pass offers are still secret. We have no idea whether Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally arrive sometime in 2025, for examplebut if so, it's already been promised as a day one Game Pass release.

Last year, after Microsoft's recent price increase and move to remove games from the basic subscription tier on day one, I wrote about how to do this Game Pass was a deal that just keeps getting worse. Perhaps 2025 will be the year that Microsoft reverses this trend, delivering quality and consistency thanks to its massive new publishing apparatus, while also finally seeing this generation's game development schedule come to fruition. Who knows if this means Microsoft can continue this trend, or if this will prove to be a spectacular but isolated blip as the bill falls due for an unsustainable economic model?

In the meantime, at least Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers will be inundated with a ton of (hopefully) cool new games.
