Video game marketing season is an exercise in duality. For each Sony state of affairs or Geoff Keigh3there is a lower key event—a day of developers, say, or a Devolver Digital Showcase. Today’s big one is the one-year-old Guerrilla Collective Livestream.
Now in its third year, the Guerrilla Collective has nailed a familiar cadence by sifting through 90 minutes of news and revelations from under-the-radar games. It’s a refreshing antidote to the endless parade of sci-fi horror games churned out in the bigger presses. Here’s everything that was shown at Guerrilla Collective 2022:
- Well, first it started with the hosts making a joke about not having to wear masks anymore. Needless to say, this pandemic is still ongoing. Please wear a mask!
- From the universe is an isometric co-op shooter about fending off an alien invasion. Coming out later this year.
- I was a teenage exocolonist is exactly what it sounds like: an adventure game in which you are a teenager who, along with other teenagers, stakes an exoplanet. Nice picture book style. Releases on August 25th.
- Ugly uses a two-kingdom perspective a la The medium, except twice as scary and two-thirds as dimensional. (It’s a 2D platformer.)
- The first person astronaut shooter Border is getting a beta this summer.
- Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms is an isometric fantasy role-playing game.
- Okay, I suppose even the indie events aren’t immune to sci-fi space horror games. Daymare: 1994 sandcastle at least it seems to work out mass effect-inspired space magic skills.
- Confirmed: The indie events offer a lot of horror games. signal Luckily it’s low-poly, which means hey, maybe I can play it.
- grave wood up is a first-person platformer about not getting caught by an imposing figure. Playable co-op or competitively and currently in Early Access on Steam. Seems kinda scary.
- madison is a first-person psychological horror game in which you wander through rusty bathrooms and abandoned churches. They’re accompanied by a Polaroid camera, and there seems to be some sort of interdimensional fun in the game. Doorbells ring without explanation. Definitive
- First-person psychological horror game The fridge is red currently has a demo live on Steam.
- I’m very much here for the aching music and East Berlin vibe of Industry, a first-person shooter where you fight against robots. Now available for next-gen consoles and PC.
- phew! Get out of the horror forest. South of the circle is a strikingly beautiful adventure game about power, memory and the “promises we make in life”.
- Five years after the release of the survival game This war of minethe developers released a “Final Cut” editionAdding new content to the game.
- The last worker is a first-person narrative adventure game about the inevitable demise of capitalism amid the rise of automation. It stars Jason Isaacs and is coming to consoles and VR this year. There are some nice comic-book inspired visuals that should be interesting in VR.
- doja cat maybe want EA to remaster SSX trickybut slope crasher– an arcade snowboarding game that lets you shred like farm animals – could be all we get in the snowboarding genre for the foreseeable future. It now has a demo out.
- The latest entry in the growing range of Pokemon– like is tape beastswhat flew my box‘s Brain when it was first announced last fall. No new information today, unfortunately.
- Assassin is a side-scrolling action game coming to Switch and Xbox this summer. It’s cooperative, damn it.
- So far, that’s the only thing people want to know about the beat-em-up TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is “Give me, give me, give me”. It will be released on June 16 and features six-player co-op.
- Skald: Against the Black Abbey is a pixel art fantasy RPG coming to PC at some point. Big Ultimate mood here.
- The pixel art action game Bats: Bloodsucker Anti Terror Squad gets a physical release for PS4 and Switch.
- They said it wasn’t possible, but they did it anyway. Yes, Arkanoid gets a modernized remake. It’s coming in October and will include a Battle Royale mode – sit down for it.
- in the Nine years of shadow, a side-scrolling fantasy action-platformer, you’ll become best friends with a magical teddy bear. Old Castles. Huge monsters. Different armors that give you different elemental abilities.
- WrestleQuest is a turn-based wrestling RPG with real wrestling icons.
- Zeoti is a roguelike based on the most classic of games: poker. Different abilities are tied to different hands; A full house is stronger than two pair, but you are less likely to hit it. Seems, if nothing else, like nothing else I’ve played.
- sizzling roll! Grid Force: Mask of the Goddess, Live by sword tactics, Necroboy: Path the Evil Ship
- alterium shift is a turn-based fantasy role-playing game with a very obvious old-school feel final fantasy inspirations.
- Greedventory is a turn-based fantasy role-playing game without the obvious final fantasy references. Lots of metal music and most of the enemies seemed to be shirtless guys with bulging eyes.
- Bring on the tactical games. locker is a tactical sci-fi game with 80s vibes (aka synth-heavy soundtrack). Set in a robot factory where music is banned, it features rhythm-based cyberpunk hacking.
- Warring Kingdoms. Grid-based tactics. Delicious pixel art. Symphony of War picks up clear clues fire sign. It’s available now for PC.
- Batora: Lost Haven is a narrative game about traveling between planets. Mixing hack-and-slash action with twin-stick shooting, it’s coming to consoles, PC, and switch.
- Asterigos: Bane of the Stars is a third-person role-playing game that, based on the combat footage shown today, appears as another game in the procession of soulslikes out in the fall.
- XEL is a third-person action game with vivid, poppy graphics, slated for a summer release. The gimmick? You can switch between past and future and must use this mechanic to solve environmental puzzles.
- Roguelike in the third person perspective magic and mysteries, you are a student at a magic college. It comes for Switch and PC.
- A cat and a fish are unlikely best friends in this co-op action game River Tails: stronger together. Reminiscent of FromSoftware’s cult co-op favorite for PlayStation 2 The Adventures of Cookie & Cream. It is planned for consoles and switch.
- Many games are about collecting creatures. But in Iconei Islandshe will the creatures that use their powers to fight, explore, and all the other things you do in third-person games. There are also basic building elements and a multiplayer mode that is planned for the future. The beta starts on June 17th on Steam.
- Time on Frog Island is a sandbox game that puts you shipwrecked on an island. July 12 for consoles, PC and Switch.
- As if one frog game wasn’t enough, there is frog, A third-person platformer that feels like a throwback to the mascot platformer era. You play as a child on a treasure hunt accompanied by a frog who is also a grappling hook. Very colorful and upbeat.
- i am future is perhaps the brightest post-apocalyptic game on this site biomutant. It’s an isometric perspective survival crafting game coming to Steam this year.
- Flat Eye is a strategic management game where you build and oversee a robot factory that’s also a futuristic hospital. The narrator sounds friendly, but a little to friendly, so my feeling is there’s more here than just the (flat) eye.
- garden in! is an organization game in which you decorate individual rooms, all viewed isometrically.
- death stranding wasn’t just a tour de force. It was also the birth of a new genre. witch strandings is an indie variant that will be released on July 7, 2022 for PC.
- Monster Outbreak is a top-down pixel art game that combines resource hunting from animal crossing with the dungeon crawling of The Legend of Zelda. It offers co-op adventures and will be released on August 25, 2022 for Switch and Steam.
- The young is a limbo-like platformer set on a post-apocalyptic Earth that has seen its inhabitants abandon the planet for Mars. There is currently a demo on Steam.
- Mira: The Legend of the Djinn is a side-scrolling action game with tough looking boss fights. Seems like a quintessential Metroidvania and is slated for 2023.
- The Survival Game world of rain receives five new “Snailcats”, his player characters, about the upcoming downpour Extension.

- Shashingo is a photography exploration game that also doubles as a crash course in Japanese language learning. It comes for PC and Switch.
Guerrilla Collective reinforces what Ian remarked the other night: That events focused on indie games so often eclipsed the bigger budget offering. Really, so many of the games shown or similarff look today so good. It’s a testament to the craftsmanship of video games and that it’s at an all-time high at this point. That too is only a fraction; will of the guerrilla collective host a second showcase on Monday, June 13 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
