Today Square Enix announced that after seven years Dragon Quest Builders releases on PC in early February for some reason.
Published in 2016, Dragon Quest Buildersis an open world survival game that combines Minecraft’s blocks with Dragon Quest‘s tradition. It’s a delightful game that lets you build bases while playing through pre-made storylines and quests. It was released on PS3 and PS4 in 2016. DQB
Seemingly out of nowhere, on January 29th Square Enix announced that the original Dragon Quest Builders would be released on February 13th for PC. After almost a decade, Square Enix seems to have remembered that people might want to play this game on their PCs.
The strange thing is that the sequel to the game Dragon Quest Builders 2which was released in the USA on consoles and PCs back in 2019. Square Enix even sells a bundle on Steam, which combines both games in one package. While I’m glad that a game that was previously stuck on consoles is getting an official PC port so that it can be more easily obtained by fans for years to come, I’m still a little confused as to why this is the case.
I also have to wonder: will Xbox players get access to this? Dragon Quest Builders later this year too? DQB2 appeared on Xbox in 2021, a few years after its release on PS4 and PC. But the first game was never released on Xbox. I’m not sure how many people are waiting to play in 2024 DQB on an Xbox, but at this point, with that random PC port coming soon, who knows? Maybe Square Enix will surprise Xbox gamers with its very own and very late DQB port. Stranger things have happened.
