AI dungeon is an infinite procedurally generated game in which players create a classic text adventure-style narrative by writing inventive or clever prompts. In a recently released update AI dungeon Developer Latitude has implemented a new system that prevents the game from generating sexual content involving minors – and the community is outraged by the implementation.
The system (which the developer is currently testing) is designed to recognize “explicit content with descriptions or representations of minors”. Under these circumstances AI dungeon I’m going to tell the player, “Oh, this took a strange turn …” and force them to try other prompts. According to a statement from Latitude, the system cast a far wider web than expected and sometimes blocked the procedural generation of stories involving children or children something
Latitude posted on Tuesday A long blog explaining the update in an attempt to allay the community’s greatest worries.
Yesterday we published a test system on the AI Dungeon platform to prevent the generation of certain sexual content that violates our guidelines, especially content that may include depictions or descriptions of minors (for which we have no tolerance). We did not advance this test to the community, creating an environment where users and other members of our larger community, including platform moderators, were unprepared. Because of this, some misinformation has spread across Discord, Reddit, and other parts of the AI Dungeon community. As a result, it became difficult to have the conversations you wanted about what type of content is allowed in AI Dungeon.
The developer said the test had unintended effects, writing: “While this test largely only prevented the AI from generating sexual content with minors, it sometimes prevented the generation of content for which it was not intended due to technical limitations . “
Fans have responded to these changes – both intended purpose and unintended side effects – on Latitude’s social media. Some of these posts are memes meant to be an easy break-in and little else for the developer, while other posts reflect legitimate anger.
Users shared Examples of their stories get to a sudden end if the test system seems to detect controversial content … even if there are clearly none. AI dungeon allows unlimited role-playing and storytelling opportunities, and Latitude supports other NSFW material, including sex, violence, and swearing. Some gamers are alarmed that their private fiction with adult topics could be moderated and read by another person on the development team. Latitude said its system will flag potentially illegal areas for further review by an agent.
“Latitude is reviewing model-tagged content to improve the model, enforce our policies, and comply with the law,” said the developer. In response to the question, “Is Latitude reading my unpublished adventures?” The developer wrote, “We have developed an automated system that detects inappropriate content.” We asked Latitude for comments and explanations.
This has users concerned about their safety and privacy, especially when they submitted vulnerable or personal information in the AI dungeon system. The test system is currently still in place.
