arrested development, the cult-favorite sitcom about a dysfunctional wealthy family, will leave Netflix in March. All five seasons of the series will be leaving Netflix on March 15, which means you’ll have to plan all of your Netflix time with the Bluth gang until then.
A very influential show arrested development launched many imitators and careers. In addition to the star-studded cast, including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, and Alia Shawkat, creatives like the Russo brothers, now best known for their MCU successes, directed and produced the pilot.
Originally made for Fox, arrested development was dropped from the network after three seasons and picked up by Netflix nearly a decade later as one of the streaming service’s first major original programs. The show lasted two (mostly poorly received) seasons on Netflix before finally ending.
The first three seasons of arrested development are also on Hulu, and there has been no indication that they will be removed from that platform. Hulu adding the final two seasons to its platform once they’re removed from Netflix would certainly make a lot of sense, but no announcement has been made.
The first four seasons of arrested development are also available borrow or buy digitally from VOD providers, but season five isn’t — meaning if Netflix removes season five from their platform, there’s no legal way to watch it online (nor has there been an official physical release of the season). With more streaming services removing both original content and library content, retention is becoming more of an issue — even for seasons that haven’t been well received.
