Battlefield 2042 has gone through the chime, but after a dramatic reduction in scope and ambition, the developers at DICE are looking to get back to business as usual for the ailing multiplayer shooter. The game’s upcoming second season, titled Master of Arms, shifts the focus away from game-wide reorganizations in the interests of a good old-fashioned content drop.
Master of Arms launches on August 30th, roughly three months after the start of Season 1, and adds the new map Stranded, which takes players to Panama to fight over a dried up lake and a ship trapped in the mud. (Maybe inspired by a real obstruction of the Suez Canal in Cairo?) A new specialist, an ex-arms dealer named Charlie Crawford, also joins the fight. As far as military shooter characters go, Charlie seems pretty straight forward, but he’s got a huge friggin’ gun and he talks like low-budget action legend Scott Adkins, so that’s kind of endearing.
In addition to new weapons and vehicles, Master of Arms brings a wealth of new features Battlefield 2042geared towards giving players the ability to unlock Season 1 content they may have missed, as well as expand on it battlefield Portal. These include contracts, which DICE says are “a way to unlock weapons in All-Out Warfare that were previously only available within battlefield
All in all, it seems like a decent, albeit run-of-the-mill, seasonal update for a multiplayer shooter. Maybe that’s not necessarily enough to attract new or retired players, but for the die-hards Battlefield 2042 loyal, maybe run-of-the-mill stability is welcome.
