During Battlefield 2042 gets better with every update (or at least closer to the game it could and should have been at launch), there’s one thing that has irked many longtime gamers since its release and continues to do so: Specialists, a bunch of “hero” characters meant to replace the old “class” system.

Rather than letting players choose from a nondescript Grunt with an assigned role – Assault, Engineer, Recon, etc. –2042 instead brought cocky characters, each with their own gadgets and unique abilities. it is somehow the same idea, just expressed with a little more flexibility and personality, however many fans hate it. If it weren’t for her annoying catchphrases—that have been weakened– then for the fact that you can never tell at a glance what kind of gear your teammates (or opponents) will be packing.

DICE was very quickly made aware that Because of this, they announced back in August 2022 that development of the game would basically go back to the drawing boardand that many things that had been shortened or changed 2042 should be brought more in line with what the series was known for.

The most important of these changes was the return to the “class” system, which is Finally heading into the 3.2 update of the game that is out Later this month. Though it won’t go as far as many fans would like – it doesn’t drop the Specialists entirely, it rearranges it their equipment and lumps them into the classroom – it will at least bring the same spirit.

I’m glad DICE is doing this some about it, because the louder fans were right, the game has A bit lacking without what the devs call “role feel”, but as someone whose favorite specialist (Mackay) will soon lose access to my favorite device (SOFLAM) in the course of the class switch, I want to try the new setup before I get too excited.

If you want to read more particularities on how the class system affects loadouts and gadgets, apart from just using this platform to file a personal complaint, You can read about it on DICE’s blog.
