Bundle offers 28 “shorter games with worse graphics” on Itchio

With 28 different games from 25 independent developers and starting at $ 20, The shorter games with inferior graphics bundle on itch.io celebrates small games from small studios that refuse to be part of the more and more annoying AAA development culture.

The Shorter Games With Worst Graphics Bundle, which will now run on itch.io through August 15, is actually the second round of a bundle that originally ran towards the end of 2020. Like the original, this new bundle is hosted by Cannibal Interactive, aka. Developer Damien on Twitter and inspired by a viral tweet posted last June by Fanbyteis Jordan Mallory. The tweet, which currently has more than 100,000 likes, reads, “I want shorter games with worse graphics from people who are paid more to work less, and I’m not kidding.”

“Inferior graphics” is of course subjective. One’s eyesore is the other’s masterpiece. But the games in the new bundle are definitely all shorter experiences for smaller teams. I personally think Express Studios Cosmic rain, the platformer / match-three puzzle combination pictured below, looks extremely charming.

Cosmic rain, three things match, the others stay the same.

Narrative puzzle game The garden of the machine by developer Too Much Tomato doesn’t need photorealistic graphics to fascinate me. My interest is sparked by an animated GIF.

This GIF, it calls me.

And let’s not forget the picture for this post that comes to us via the trailer Space Pirate Captain McCallery Episode 2: Pilgrims in Purple Moss from the “low-poly-pulp” game manufacturer Breakaway Sector Stories. It’s a little survival adventure with purple and teal graphics that takes me back to my days browsing the BBSs for the latest shareware releases.

The Shorter Games With Worst Graphics Bundle seems like a nice way to add 28 quirky little titles to your PC library that don’t need a huge publishing conglomerate to spread their special joy. Because yes, I want shorter games with worse graphics from people who paid more money to do less work.
