Bungie should bring back old Destiny 2 content for new players

Recently my fiancée and I started playing Fate 2 together. We were looking for a co-op game with a lot of things that support cross play and cross save. Somehow I convinced her to give Fate 2 a shot. So far we’ve had a great time. It was great to get back to the game after years. But back to Fate 2 as an experienced player alongside a rookie has identified a problem: Fate 2 does not respect his own narrative. With so much missing from the past, it’s hard for a new gamer to get caught up without jumping on YouTube.

In 2020, Bungie deleted a lot of content Fate 2. This involved entire storylines and locations. The original Fate 2 Campaign, the Red War? Path. Past expansions and events that drove the game’s overall narrative? Turned off. Places that were once very important in Destiny’s Story how the farm? REMOVED. And while the game does spend some time vaguely explaining what happened, if you really want to know all the details, you have to obtained via YouTube videos or blog posts. Not an ideal situation.

And with more content coming soon in February, this problem only gets worse. When Bungie cares about telling stories in determination (and based on all of the lore books buried in the game that they do), it is time to give players this earlier content, even if they come back with no rewards or specific loot.

Right now the experience with new players is bad, and not just because some people are trapped in a cosmic game show, can’t progress until stronger players come to save them. (Though that sucks, too.) If you really want to understand what’s going on, who all these characters are and what they’re talking about, Fate 2 doesn’t give you a lot of context.

The main strategy that Bungie seems to be using is to offer a timeline function in the game’s menu, where you can read blurb about specific seasons and DLC events. That’s nice, but a lot of details are missing. And reading about the Red War is far less engaging than actually playing it, which you can’t do in 2021. The new gaming experience is especially bad for free-to-play players. which now have very little content to play around with, and most of it exists outside of a limited timeline with no narrative construction.

When I lurk in the different determination In forums, subreddits, and social media communities, I often see players responding to people who ask for old content or story information with an answer that says, “Check out some YouTube videos.” This is not a good solution even if there are some content creators out there who do excellent roundups and lore videos. Lots of people would like to play through some of these older campaigns and missions to see the story for yourself in the correct order. But this is not possible.

Bungie says that all of this old and removed content that is now part of the Destiny content vault, could come back into the game one day. But so far only a few outdated items have returned, such as “Glass vault“Which is beautiful in itself. I really enjoyed this raid back then. But I also hope for more pieces Fate 2 ‘s narrative return to the future, even if that content doesn’t include any rewards or new gear, and the download is entirely optional. While I know a lot of players are just trying to maximize their light intensity each year, I’m here to enjoy the full game, including its story-centric missions, whether or not I raise some numbers. It would also be nice to finally allow newer ones Fate 2 Players will have the opportunity to work through the Red War and other parts of the vaulted content.

The upcoming expansion, The witch queen, is tied to many past (and now gone) Hive-related plot points, some of the first determination. It would be extremely useful and helpful to have more context for new players or returning players, such as the Taken King campaign or Crota-related missions from Fate 1. This would help the players regardless of theirs determination Experience, wrap their heads around the often chaotic and strange lore that fills up determination‘S Universe. Plus, it would mean that you could actually get to know the universe without reading a wiki page or watching a YouTube video. Imagine if you could play the game to learn more about the history of the game. An interesting concept that Bungie should try.
