On March 28, 2023, Popplio will be in the spotlight and you’ll get double XP for catching Pokémon. And no, Popplio can’t be shiny Pokemon Go (still)!
Just like the previous Alolan starters that have seen Spotlight Hours over the past few weeks, Popplio is not yet available Shiny. Its shiny version probably won’t be released until we get a Popplio Community Day in the years to come. With Chespin Community Day in January 2023, we’ve only just started moving into Community Days for the Kalos region starters, which means Alolan starters are likely a way out.
Still, it’s worth looking for a Popplio with good IVs because you can stick with it and evolve it whenever Popplio Community Day comes around. Evolving Popplio into its final evolution, Primarina, will likely teach it Hydro Cannon, a powerful water-type move only learned by Starter Pokémon.
Pokemon is about catching them all, and in pokemon go, That means catching every variant, including rare Shiny versions of Pokémon. Every Tuesday in Pokemon Go, players will see a specific Pokémon spawn more frequently during Spotlight Hour, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:59 p.m. local time. Spotlight Hour is your chance to load up Candy, a chance at high CP Pokémon, and if you’re lucky, a Shiny Pokémon.
Will Shiny rates increase during Spotlight Hour?
Based on data collected from the Pokémon community, Shiny rates don’t appear to increase during Spotlight hours The Silph Street. However, the sheer number of Pokemon spawning during the hour-long weekly event gives you an improved chance of clicking on a random Shiny. The more Pokemon you click, the more chances you have of catching a Shiny Pokemon.
What can I do to attract more Shiny Pokémon?
Unfortunately not much. It seems to be coincidence. Shiny Pokemon catch rates are set by developer Niantic and usually only increase during special events like Community Days or Safari Zones or in Legendary Raids. There are no consumable items that increase Shiny Pokemon rates.
