The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is next week, and while that’s usually a time for developers from around the world to get together, the developers of rust also planned use the event to catch up with fans. That now will not happen.
As PC gamer report
It has now been canceled after the developers received “kill threats”, with the team releasing a statement on Twitter saying:
This is not a statement we like to proclaim.
Due to an IRL threat which we must take seriously, we have to cancel next week’s GDC meeting in San Fran. 😢
Fans are encouraged to reach out via email instead! instead of this. “It’s important to remember that developers are actually human,” they add in a follow-up tweet, saying, “When threats emerge, we make their security #1.”
“The overwhelming majority of fans are respectful and supportive,” rust Producer Alistair McFarlane narrates PC gameradd to “There will always be a small subset of individuals who engage in threatening and abusive behavior.”
It is important to note that this meeting was not part of the official Game Developers Conference calendar of events and therefore had nothing to do with the organizers of GDC. That was something rust The team organized outside of this just to take advantage of the fact that the team and fans would be in the same room for a few days.
The cancellation only affects this one meeting; Developers Facepunch will continue to be present at the Game Developers Conference, taking place March 20-24.
