Free to play online MMO looter shooter destiny 2released in 2017, is one of my favorite video games. I play it all the time. I have multiple characters. I own all the last seasons. It’s awesome. But I’d be lying if I said I’m not worried about the future of the game with every season, it seems to be becoming more prone to breakage. Indeed, as I write this paragraph at around 4:00 PM on January 24th, the game remains offline while Bungie continues to investigate the latest issue. By now, many gamers are hoping for a brand new engine and game, likely in the form of destiny 3 But things are never that simple.
earlier today, destiny 2 has been taken offline on all platforms when Bungie investigated how players lost progress on Triumphs and Seals, which work like in-game achievements and challenges. It’s not the end of the world, sure, but only a few last week Players reported losing their characters
To have a look Bungie’s official support account on Twitter– which is often updated regularly to inform players about upcoming patches, server issues and other important information destiny 2– You can find many tweets that boil down to Bungie saying, “Well, that doesn’t w ork. We’re trying to fix it. More info later.” Online games not working every day are nothing new and not an exclusive problem destiny 2
Anecdotally my time playing destiny 2 been more flawed than ever lately. This new season brought both cool new raid missions and weird lags that I’ve never seen before. I still encounter the problem that the game does not count every PvP match, which makes us play more to complete challenges and weekly quests. And I just accepted that in-game bounties tied to kills, missions, or other activities don’t always update the way they should. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I and other players I know are just getting used to it destiny 2 not be reliable. And it seems to be getting worse, not better, as the game expands, adding more levels and systems.

Look online and you’ll quickly see players suggesting that Bungie needs to move on to a theoretical one destiny 3, a game that’s likely to happen – and may already be in development – but hasn’t been confirmed yet. During today’s extended downtime, destiny 3 was trending on Twitter as players bickered over the shooter’s future and stability. For some, the idea of a new engine and fresh slate felt promising and gave hope that it would solve many destiny 2′
I personally think a new one determination would probably be a good step to take eventually. It could allow the developers to do something more flexible and be able to handle the kind of events they’ve spent years developing and perfecting. But I’m also not naive enough to think it would fix everything or be easy to create. Still, I understand the players’ frustration destiny 2 remains consistently inconsistent.
Like an old PC or mixer, destiny 2 mostly works, but it’s covered in tape, dents, and dirt. And every once in a while you have to kick him or fiddle with the string to get him started. Sure, it still rumbles to life, but you’ll likely need to replace it someday. And with destiny 2I have a feeling Bungie will smack the tape for as long as it takes destiny 2 to survive to the end of the planned roadmap, which will likely see the final season in 2024. Beyond that, well, I don’t know. Hopefully by then the game will at least feel more stable and reliable, not worse.
