Electronic Arts has added nine classic games to Steam including Dungeon Keeper GoldSimCity 3000and a World War II-era open-world action game The saboteur, which was previously removed from Valve’s digital PC store, but is now back for sale.
These days I feel like I spend more time writing and reading about games delisted, deleted, canceledor get stuck on old platforms. Just today, March 8th, I read posts from developers about how to do this Warner Bros. Discovery plans to remove about a dozen games from Steam
On March 7thEA announced that nine classic PC games have been added to Steam. The publisher even created a nifty little trailer announcing the news. How nice.
Here’s the full list of games EA just added to Steam:
- Command and conquer the ultimate collection
- SimCity 3000 Unlimited
- Populous
- Populous II: Trials of the Olympian Gods
- Populous: The Beginning
- Dungeon Keeper Gold
- Dungeon Keeper 2
- Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri planet pack
- The saboteur
A nice bonus: To celebrate the release of these games on Steam, EA has them all.
To be clear, most of these games were already available on GOG. So it’s not like EA is pulling these games out of nowhere and making them playable again. But it’s nice to see EA supporting Steam more, and the ability to buy classic games in more places is always good.
Plus, The saboteur is now back on Steam after being removed from the platform sometime in 2015. Oddly enough, the open-world action game developed by Pandemic is the OG’s final game Star Wars Battlefront Developers made it before it was closed by EA– was never removed from EA’s digital storefront on PC or GOG. Only Steam lost the game in 2015. But now, almost a decade later, this fantastic game is back with sophisticated black and white graphics. And if you can get it running on Valve’s Steam Deck, it seems to be going well.
Publishers need to do a lot more Support old games and keep them from dying or being lost to time. So that doesn’t seem like much, but it is true something At least it’s not bad news, and right now I think we all deserve some good news. Enjoy your Friday and have a nice weekend.
