elden ring can look very similar Dark Souls but as far as we know now, it’s a whole separate thing in terms of narrative and lore. That doesn’t mean, however, that there aren’t legitimate connections between From Software’s latest action RPG and previous games such as demons souls, bloodborneand even Armored Core.
I really don’t know what you are doing here trying to avoid spoilers, but this is your l ast chance to close this tab or click any link to any of the igamesnews
As part of a recent Red Bull-branded preview event, several notable Twitch personalities were invited to demos elden ring Before its release, it was revealed that a character named Patches will appear in the upcoming game. Spanish streamer ChusoMMontero faced Patches during his session, apparently prompting the NPC’s contempt after looting a treasure chest.
Chuso was quickly cut down, but not before providing us with this excellent footage of Patches in action.
Patches should be a familiar face to longtime fans of From Software history, especially when it comes to the company’s genre-defining souls and souls-like games. While he first debuted in 2008 Armored Core: In reply as Patch the lucka faceless, rival pilot With a penchant for sniffing you out of thin air rather than confronting you head-on, most folks got the following year, courtesy of demons souls.
Similar to his Armored Core Look, Patch the hyena (as he is known in demons souls) is a cowardly, sneaky NPC who will twice lead you into compromising situations hoping you die so he can loot your corpse. Either way, once you escape his traps, he apologizes for his actions. When you live patches, he sets up a shop in the game’s hub area.
While most people disapproved of the changes to demons souls Aesthetics in its PlayStation 5 remake, I applaud developer Bluepoint Software for using the enhanced graphics to give Patch one of the most punchy faces I’ve seen in a video game. I’d be curious if more people killed him on PS5 than on the PlayStation 3 original.
“Reliable” patches The next appeared in 2011 Dark Souls, which introduces itself to you in different locations depending on your progress in the game. Similar to im demons souls, he lures you with promises of treasure only to chase you over cliffs and into dark chasms. And if, as in demons soulsdon’t give in to the temptation to slaughter him on the spot, Patches becomes a trader and sells his ill-gotten loot at the Firelink Shrine.
My favorite patch cameo comes courtesy of 2015 bloodborne. Deep in this Lovecraftian adventure you will meet a character named Mend the spiderwho’s basically the patches we’ve come to know and love, with a creepy arachnid-style body.
He first appears invisibly behind closed doors at the start of the story, providing you with a key element to progress in the game before his full face is revealed in the otherworldly lecture building.
Of course, what an idiot would Patches be if he didn’t kick you in a hole? Approaching a specific cliff in the late-game Nightmare Frontier will activate a short cutscene from the perspective in which he pushes you over the edge. These are the patches we know and tolerate!
And finally 2016 Dark Souls 3 marked the recent appearance of “Unbreakable” patches. Once again he subjects you to a series of trials, even stealing the armor and identity of a beloved ally named Siegward from Catarina, but his story comes to a fitting conclusion in the thoroughly entertaining ring town
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking it out souls Loresmith VaatiVidya’s video essay on Patches’ journey from vile parasite to ruthless survivor.
Apart from this, patches can also contain analogues dark souls 2 and Sekiro: Shadows die twice, although not with the same name. the former Gentle godfather seems friendly when you first meet him, but later becomes part of a quest line involving a betrayed former partner while the latter is Anayama the peddler is considered a possible deputy due to his history as a former thief turned merchant. While these aren’t direct references to the real patches, it’s easy to argue that they should serve the same role.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, to whom many are credited for founding the souls-like genre with his work demons souls, Dark Souls, bloodborneand Axesupposedly while claimed an interview from 2011 in the Japanese podcast Don’t play shokutaku that every game he makes will contain patches. Joke or not, it’s nice to see elden ring to keep up with this continuity. Dark Souls 3 felt like the perfect farewell for the little asshole, but I look forward to seeing what role, if any, he plays in the story of this and future From Software projects.
