Probably GOTY elden ring is perhaps the least surprising piece of news I’m about to write for this site today, always a board game adaptation.
It won’t be the first souls– of course I like the tabletop treatment. Back in 2016 a Dark Souls Board game raised over $200,000 on Kickstarter in Under two hours (it would keep increasing 4 million dollars
elden ring is handled by the same designers behind it Dark Souls—Steamforged Games—and coming soon to Kickstarter (the site is now online, but the campaign itself is not live). While the details are still pretty sketchy at this point, one thing that already sounds cool is the way combat is handled, with dice rolling out the window in favor of:
Like the video game, the ELDEN RING™ board game immerses players in the forlorn lands in between. Set in a vast, sprawling world of decaying splendor that unfolds through exploration, 1-4 “Tarnished” players embark on a vast and varied adventure, visiting iconic locations and crossing paths with familiar enemies and characters.
The video game’s characteristically challenging combat is recreated through intelligent, dice-free combat that requires players to strategize and adapt their plans throughout each encounter – be it a lowly Godrick soldier or the Grafted King himself.
Steamforged has made a name for itself in recent years and has adapted quite a few video games Dark Souls (twice as a board and card game). Horizon Zero Dawn to games based on both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. So I think we can safely assume that while this isn’t quite as celebrated as the source material, its creators at least understand what makes a video game tick on the tabletop.
