elden ring it’s hard enough. But it’s even harder when you’re playing with a toy controller meant for kids. Self-described as a “builder of bizarre controllers” Streamer Rudeism shared that he had created a fully functional controller with a Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Game & Learn Controller on April 30th. He later shared a video showing him using the controller to play games elden ring.
Rudeism first came up with the idea of doing it from a Wario64 tweet who shared a sale for a colorful Fisher Price controller as a joke, saying it was “perfect for elden ring
The modded controller is fully functional like an Xbox controller and retains the features of the original children’s toy to help you learn your ABC’s and Become the Elden Lord. Rudeism posted a video of the controller being played with elden ring and as he pressed buttons, an energetic voice explained the colors of the buttons, such as “Blue!” and “Orange!” every time he pressed it.

Rudeism explained to Polygon via Twitter how he did it. He started by hooking up an Arduino to the existing board and then programming the Arduino to work as an Xbox device. He later replaced the thumbstick, added some extra switches for the shoulders, and then “tucked it all back in”. In his opinion, the hardest part was getting all the parts in. Rudeism told Polygon that the controller took about two weeks to manufacture overall.
The controller is clearly missing a few buttons that are common on regular video game controllers. One of the biggest missing components is a second thumbstick. Instead of two thumbsticks, there’s a yellow switch on the bottom controller that can be toggled to toggle the controller between left and right thumbsticks.
Oddly enough, Rudeism said the controller works surprisingly well for FromSoftware games: “I’ll be experimenting with a few games to see what works and what doesn’t, but for now I know I’ll beat it.” elden ring.” He also posted a clip of playing Tony Hawk’s professional skater and chained tricks with ease.
As for future plans, he’ll just keep tinkering with them. People have already reached out to see if he’s taking commissions. He told Polygon, “I’m not quite there yet, I’m still working on the quality of my builds, but I think this one was a big step in the right direction!”
