Elden Ring Nightreichign is nothing like Elden Ring – and that's a shame

Ok, I know that you have just read this heading, but let me admit that I don't actually think Elden ring It is difficult – not if you take it slowly and steadily, which not only allows the design of the game, but also encourages. With every step of the path in Elden ringYou can decide exactly how you want to play it. It is very customizable and rewarded patience. Elden Ring Nighteg is the opposite, and that's why I don't think it's for me. And it may not be for most others of software game fans, which is pretty shocking.

It would not be a start of Sow software games without a few debates about difficulty and certain players who spin each other “Git Gud” as if it were ever from afar, and not only in the worst case as anti -social. Instead, I try to exist in the sector of the Fromsoftware Fedoma, which is more prosocial than anti-social Demons souls'Multiplayer elements with prosocial thinking (about an old 2010 Eurogamer interview):

“The origin of this idea is actually due to a personal experience in which a car suddenly stopped on a hill after some snow and started slipping,” says Miyazaki. “The car that followed me also stuck, and then it spontaneously pushed it and pushed it up the hill … So everyone can come home! Then it was my turn and everyone started to push up my car on the hill, and I managed to get home safely.”

“But I couldn't stop the car to thank the people who would have given me a boost. I would have just got stuck when I stopped. On the way home I wondered if the last person in the line had managed to go home, and thought I would probably never meet the people who had helped me.

“You could probably call it a connection between mutual support between temporary people. Strangely enough, this incident will probably stay in my heart for a long time.”

The multiplayer experiences I have made Dark souls And Elden ring Definitely linger in my heart. I also loved the moments of software games in which I personally conquered a difficult section alone. But I look back with the same recognition in the time when I conjured up a completely stranger to help myself with something – “a connection of mutual support between temporary people,” as Miyazaki put it. So these games should be played, not as brutal solo trips, but as joint experiences.

This brings us back Elden Ring NightegA game directed by Miyazaki, but by Junya Ishizaki. The difference in his multiplayer ethos is strong. This is a game that was designed with a view of three-player troops. It is currently very punished for Solo players (although an upcoming patch aims to fix some of them), and the designers are still working on a duos mode. Since it is three players by default, I assumed Elden ring. I would argue that it is not so, and that's why it is very difficult to have a good time in the game – especially if you play with completely strangers.

Problem number one: There is no communication system in the game next to the ping of certain locations on the map. Lack of chat options is one of software classics, and in most of these games you don't really need to need communication to understand what to do. Usually they are only called to help in a boss fight, and after they are over, they are ready and return to their game. But in Night directionIt is obviously three players for the entire game, and it is a match-based game, not a hundred-hour RPG. Matches last 45 minutes and counts every second, which means that you and your teammates have to be extremely organized everywhere. The lack of communication hurts. But that's not the only problem. Far from it.

Problem number two: the ring of the fire. This game is a combination of Elden ringThe open world areas (which promote slow, methodological explorations) and a fuzel-like fire ring that constantly closes to them (which means that they shouldn't carry out a slow, methodological research). There is also a diaablo-like prey system, but you read these prey descriptions better fastBecause the fire comes for you. There are randomized boss fights on the map, but OOPS you may not be able to complete them in time to collect runes from them because this fire closes. There are also special upgrades that you can only get if you defeat these bosses with medium games in the entire card, but you could hardly have time to read these descriptions of the special ability and you have selected a time for the fire.

This second problem becomes even more stressful if you have two other people in your team next to you. This game not only contains two different sprint buttons of normal sprint and a super-fast sprint that uses endurance faster. This is because of course you have to run before this fire. But that means that your teammates and you constantly have to scream the equivalent “movement, move, move” like a drill sergeant in an army film. You will incondently get annoyed about your teammate, who looks at a damn long time on the floor or on an upgrade tree. The fire comes! Hurry down to the hell! This is also not a selection of the game design that rewards prosocial behaviors and instead they feel depressed by the two teammates, which they urgently need to survive the bosses in this game. Even the “resuscitation process” is that you harm your teammate to bring you back to life (instead of a resuscitation button or a resuscitation object), which is dark funny because you may also grow to hit them because they are in a super difficult fight. That brings us to the third and last problem.

Third problem: the randomization of the bosses and the objects. The thing with the base Elden ring Can she find out a boss and how he works (is it weak to fire? Sacred damage? And so on) and then patiently build a character that can deal with this problem. You can make the attack pattern of this boss memorized. You will find a save point that is closest to this boss and run back again and again until you come by. These are all the wonderful and rewarding parts of the playing of software video games. These are also the moments when you carry out all of these preparations and then think: “Actually, I would also like to summon a completely stranger to help myself with this boss because it is still too damn difficult.” And then you can do that too. None of this is in the case Night directionBecause everything is completely damn.

The bosses, with the exception of the very last boss in every area, are random. The prey is random. Do you have the right prey to fight the boss with whom you are properly exposed to in this second? You can't do it very well. Do your teammates have it? You may not even know; After all, you have no way of communicating with you. Is the boss in this area exaggerated for you and your team? It will not be obvious for you to start beating, and as soon as you do that, good luck. And if your team carries out a complete wiping and everyone dies together on this boss, you cannot go together from the nearest Save Point after you have seen his attack patterns and ready to try it again with teamwork. No, instead, you can start all over again, except now with new randomized bosses and a new randomized prey.

In other games with randomized prey such as Diablo or other roguelics with random elements such as HadesThe game is designed with downtime. If you have completed a fight in Diablo or HadesThey have endless time to get around and make decisions. There is no fire -fighting group that forces you to read element descriptions and ability trees quickly. There is a reason for this; The decision -making process is the most fun part of a game with randomized elements. Why should Night direction take away?

All of these aspects of the game feel less bad when they play with two good friends in the Voice chat. But even in this scenario, the game is still very punished, and not in a way that others punish the other of software games. It is punished because you have to spend the entire game with randomized prey as soon as possible before making a (possibly bad) decision (possibly bad) decisions, running more and desperately encouraging your teammates to keep up to keep up, and to warn your teammates of the interventions to kill them, and do I mention running? Is this an entertaining way to spend their weekly gamer evening with two other adults who have only worked a full-time job all day and maybe just wanted to play together for a good time?

I had a rating code for Night direction For a while I was concerned about these problems before the game started, but now that it was started and I see Early mixed reviews on SteamI am ready to correct and validate: Yes, this game really doesn't feel that way Elden ringAnd even after some of these things have been patched, it is still very different. And this is not only because it is a multiplayer, but also because the multiplayer simply does not feel like another multiplayer made of software experiences. It feels like it is not only designed for people who have two best friends with whom they regularly play competitive games, but also especially for people who live for thrills and speed – not for the methodical, calculated experiences of other software games.

For all of these reasons, I am really not sure how this will arise over the course of software. Will this game eventually promote some prosocial behaviors among players to all adversities? Does people slow the best ways to get through different areas? Will there be a “meta” for the cooperation that appears over time?

It seems possible, and since it was only one day, it is far too early to tell it. Various social norms will be created in the player community, and hopefully they will not be poisonous. But I can see that this has already played the game that this will be an increase in software fans. It is a completely different game – and its specific form of difficulty will be a completely new variety for these fans that you can get used to. And how I could only decide that they don't really take care of it.
