It may have been written by an old white man and have magic and swords and monsters and the word “ring” in the title, but elden ring is not Lord of the rings. Not even close. Unless….
This video by PickleLover cuts different locations and sequences together elden ringdresses 1-2 protagonists like hobbits, gives them appropriate weapons, and then reenacts a number of recognizable moments from Frodo and Sam’s journey from Rivendell to Mordor.
Every single scene here is amazing! They aren’t shown in chronological order, but they are (as far as I can tell):
- Frodo leaves Rivendell (“Mordor, Gandalf, is it left or right?”)
- Frodo & Sam’s first night out camping with their sausages and sleeping on dirty big roots
- Frodo & Sam move across a meadow. Which could happen really often in the movies.
- They hide from Ringwraiths outside of Bree as they make their way to Buckleberry Ferry
- Frodo’s sword Sting glows blue
- Sam jumps in to kill Shelob and save Frodo. It’s a very nice touch to have Frodo lying down while Sam wields the glowing spike.
- Traveling through the Dead Marshes
- Travel through Mordor
- Hiding from the Eye of Sauron near Mount Doom
- Frodo looking over some mountains what I’m thinking just after the crew fled Moria?
- Frodo and Sam in the bowels of Mount Doom
It’s a testament to how well each scene is portrayed that there are only a few that I was only vaguely sure of, while the rest look kind of the same as the source material, despite being from a completely different game featured in a completely different universe.
If you want to do this yourself, well I can’t possibly list all the locations in the game, I’m not the type for that. But if you at least want your character to look like these guys, PickleLover says the hobbits are dressed in page robes with queen’s leggings.
