On January 16th, Nintendo officially unveiled the successor to its incredibly popular Switch. The new device is simply called “ Switch 2it's bigger, slimmer and most of your old games should work on it. But now the next question might be, “When or where can I pre-order this thing?”
Here's the bad news: you can't pre-order a Switch 2 right now. If you see a website, social media account or app that claims you can pre-order the Switch 2, it is a scam and I would advise you to avoid these links. Now for some good news: We probably know when Switch 2 pre-orders will go live.
When Switch 2 pre-orders will (probably) go live
At the end of the new Switch 2 trailer, the company confirmed that it would have one Nintendo Switch 2-focused Direct later this year. Specifically, the Nintendo Direct will appear on April 2nd. And this is likely the day pre-orders go live in most territories.
It makes sense that Nintendo would wait to accept pre-orders until more games were shown and more information about the upcoming console's price and release date was announced. So I expect the April Direct to end with a “And the pre-orders go live later today!” Announcement or at least confirmation of when they are expected to go live.
Right now, as discovered by Wario64Best Buy allows users to register to be notified when pre-orders are live on the retailer's website. I'm not sure you need to do that. All gaming-related websites and social media accounts will post Switch 2 pre-orders as soon as they become available. However, if you want to be absolutely sure that you'll be able to pre-order Nintendo's next home console, there's no harm in signing up for a Best Buy email alert.
When will the Switch 2 be released?
Officially, Nintendo only confirmed the launch of the Switch 2 that it would take place in 2025. However, the company also announced at the end of the Switch 2 trailer that it will take place Practical experience around the globe before the console's release. And we can look at this data to determine a possible launch time frame.
According to Nintendo's websiteNew York City will be the first place in the world where you can try out a Switch 2 for yourself. That starts in April. Then there are a number of other cities around the world that also have the opportunity to try out the device.
Nintendo is currently scheduled to host a demo event in Seoul, South Korea from May 31st to June 1st. This is the furthest confirmed date. It's believed that Nintendo won't be holding any more hands-on demo events after the console's release, so we can probably expect the earliest possible release month for the Switch 2 to be June. I bet July or even August. This gives Nintendo time to plan a few more events if necessary, and gives the company enough time to properly launch the Switch 2 by then.
