Nintendo does something that the company has never done before: next month it will remove a retro game from the classic catalog of Nintendo Switch online.
Since the start of the Nintendo Switch Online Classic Service in 2018, the company has never removed a game behind Mario. Instead, it slowly built up a properly large library with retro games from first and third-party providers from several console libraries. However, subscribers in Japan will lose a retro game in March, even if they have already downloaded it.
On February 27th, Nintendo Japan announced quietly The Super Famicon game Superformation football will be removed from the Japan Nintendo Switch Online service on March 28.
Nintendo confirmed that even players who have already downloaded and installed the game could no longer play SUper formation football After March 28th.
At the moment it seems that this title is only removed from Nintendo Switch Online in Japan. In America the game was published as Great football For the SNES. So far, Nintendo has not announced any plans to remove this version from NSO's classic catalog here. That could be while during Superformation football was released by Spike Chunsoft in Japan, and Nintendo's game was released worldwide. So it seems that the business that is the game for licensing the game Great football was published by Nintendo himself.
While I doubt that there was a huge audience for Great football On Nintendo Switch there are still bad news to see a game from the classic catalog.
Although the games are constantly removed from Game Pass and PS Plus, people can still buy these games digitally. With Nintendo, these games are closed behind the NSO subscription service and after removing you can no longer play them on Switch. Just another good reason why Nintendo has to bring the virtual console back for Switch 2.
