Video gamesHonk once dominated the gaming landscape. Today, well … somehow they still do. But the variety and variety of shooters has really evolved over the past few years. Now we have hardcore military sims, colorful live games full of wild quests, VR title Pushing the boundaries of what we can do in games, co-op adventures, and whatever determination 2 is these days. Verily, a golden age of Sagittarius lies ahead, old and new.
So here’s our list of the top 10 shooters from 2021. Some of these are brand new while others have been around for a while but still kick ass and reload well into 2021 thanks to ongoing events and updates.
First the new children in the block. (The games that came out this year, not the band. At least I don’t think so …)
Back 4 blood
Yes it basically is left 4 Dead with some weird cards, but considering how I’ve been waiting forever L4D3, I’m not complaining. For sure, I find the game a little too difficult and I think the cards, while fun, can be too much for some people to start with. But once you’ve got your head around the card system and play with some friends, this update of the classic L4D The formula is an undead annihilation of co-op goodness that is only slightly tarnished by some strange design choices and no offline advancement.
Halo infinite
What else is there to say? It’s new gloriole! That this game even exists at all is nothing short of a miracle. That it is amazing as it is, and in the wild packaging that it has –Free-to-play multiplayer, extensive campaign, generally flawless– is a godsend to lift a sentence from one of the PVP announcers. Halo infinite could have ended up as a solid first-person shooter and done well. Instead, it is the foundation of a kickass game that we will no doubt play for years.
Dread X Collection: The Hunt
This isn’t actually a game, but seven different indie horror shooters in one package that has its own meta-narrative. I don’t want to spoil too much of what you find in it The hunt, since playing any game and digging in is half the fun. But there is one game that feels like an insane intersection Pokemon Snap on the N64 and a deer hunting game infected by ancient gods and their disgusting creations. Good shit, I say. Play it now.
Resident Evil 4 VR
For sure, I bought and played many versions of Capcom’s classic survival horror game. But none of them are as scary or intense as this year’s VR port. I often find 2D games in VR nice, but not worth my time. but RE4 VR is the rare exception that actually plays better in V.R, thanks to some fantastic design choices and tweaks from the developers.
Splitgate
Technically released on PC in 2019, I’m throwing this online arena shooter into the new games section because Splitgate really wasn’t released until early this year when it got a big update and made its way to consoles. Then it started breaking records and quickly became one of the greatest shooters of 2021. Every game that mixes successfully Halo’s Action and flow with the wild portals from Valve’s portal series was meant for size, though it took a few years and a few console ports to get there.
Boomerang X
A little strange to include a game here that doesn’t have weapons in it. What’s a boomerang if not a gun that comes back to you? Maybe that’s not entirely true, or even slightly, but whatever, Boomerang X may not be a shooter in the traditional sense, but it plays and feels a lot like the fast-paced shooters of the old days, like for example Quake. You bounce and run a lot through large arenas and thanks to the game’s ability to slow down time and dart around with magic, the action is not only fast but also impressively fresh!
And now to the older shooters. Don’t be fooled by that sexy silver lining in their nonexistent hair, these Sagittarius may not be young but they are still killing them in 2021.
Fourteen days
It’s a little strange to see Fourteen days on a list of the best shooters because to me it feels more like a quest-based RPG due to the constant evolution of the missions in the game. I play Fourteen days to collect experience points and levels so that I can collect all items on the Battle Pass before the end of the season. If people meet me while I’m doing this, I shoot them and I really enjoy doing it, so yeah-Fourteen days gets a place.
Fate 2
Fate 2 Introduced in 2017 and in the years since it has continuously developed and grown (and then sometimes shrink) in something completely different than what it was when it started. Sure, not every evolution or change has been loved by the die-hard gamers who grind around in Bungie’s online looter shooter, but the overall look and feel Trajectory of Fate 2 is mostly positive. And the lbranch extension was one of his best and newest, a celebration of bungies 30th anniversary, contains Starhorse. And we all love star horses.
Halo Master Chief Collection
Remember how awful that Master Chief Collection was when it first hit the market? Think about the months and months and months of the updates and suffered broken shit players? Maybe not, because today, in 2021, is the Customer Center has grown into one of the best shooters you can play. Classics like bundling Halo 3 and ODST and Reach A lot helps in one package, but there are also the current seasons, new content, and frequent improvements that does Customer Center for sure one of the best and most entertaining shooters out there.
Appreciation
One of the younger shooters among the current hits we’ve listed Appreciation has already made a name for itself after its introduction last year. Sure, it was kind of stupid to have to watch people play the game on Twitch for a chance to play early, but since then Appreciation has developed a large and competent community of players. Its mix of CSGO-like tactical gameplay with magic, Special Abilities created something special, and just a year later, there is no telling what the next few years will be Appreciation will look like how as a developer Riot continues to tweak and improve things.
Of course, this is not an exhaustive list of every most popular shooter from 2021 and as such, we’ve probably left out one of your personal favorites. Let us know in the comments below what some of your favorite new or senior running shooters are.
