Epic Games confirmed today that its popular battle is famous Fortnite it will be available to play in the following consoles as soon as they are out.
It will not be a new version of Fortnite. Instead it will be the current one, built on Unreal Engine 4, just working on new hardware. "Although we won't share the details right now, the powerful Hardware will allow us to improve performance and visualization," Epic wrote in an update on the game's website
The company also said it plans to support the advancement of existing players developing new challenges, as well as playing between all types of games. It is not entirely clear that that means all disconnects and passes will be available when launching the PS5 and Xbox Series X, or elsewhere.
Fortnite it will finally be launched in Unreal Engine 5 by “mid-2021.” Epic also said it plans to continue supporting the game on existing platforms. Fortnite has already been made for other engine updates: Earlier this year Epic submitted the game to a new physics program called Unreal Chaos Engine. Epic also announced a new developer package today called Epic Online Services. A set of tools that Epic uses to control online activities Fortnite such as matchmkaing and player accounts, again to do it it's free for all developers as a "simple SDK multiplatform." Hopefully this will make it easier for studios to work and play more consistently in their games going forward.
