The title character of Frier is a talented elf magician who was once a member of a heroic adventure party who defeated a great evil. The party promises to meet again in 50 years. This is just a look at a eye for Frier who doesn't bother to stay in touch with the rest of her friends. But when she appears, it is clear that the rest of them have aged. As you enjoy your little meeting, it ends sadly when the main hero dies the next day.
Even more time passes before the freezers bring another adventure onto the market and reluctantly takes over a protégé. She vanishes through places she has previously seen and comes across villages that she once saved, just to find out that she is now a remote memory. It is something she accepted after she has lived hundreds of years. No matter how legendary, all heroes fade, even if they insist that their size will save them this fate.
The could Be a real crap, but the show emphasizes that just because time is fleeting, it does not mean that it cannot be enjoyed. Frier has survived all of her friends and she will definitely survive the two young heroes in her current Adventuring party. But that does not mean that it is not worth getting to know them and enjoying the time they have with them.
This elegiac edge does what does what Freeze So special, but also without the existential overtones, it is a damn fine fantasy show with an interesting worldview and a wonderful animation. The rear half of the first season really immerses in the magic system of the world, but in a way that is still connected to the overall topics of the show. Frier was there when people started to use magic and she saw how it developed over time. Therefore, the new generation of the macifers, the Frier and their protégé, shows the inevitability of rapid progress.
Almost a year after I finished the first season, I still think about it Freeze. It is a show that is in the skin and really sticks to them that uses everything to bring your big ideas home.
All episodes of Freeze: beyond journey's end are now on crunchyroll. New episodes will arrive next January.
