GameStop has temporarily suspended its lucrative trading business. The company said in a statement that it is "postponing our video game and consumer electronics until Sunday, March 29."
The suspension is part of a number of changes the company brought to restructuring the novel coronavirus epidemic, according to an email statement on Polygon. GameStop is being hijacked by staff and the media for its failure to adapt to this problem, including the overwhelming emphasis that it deserves as a marketer of "essential" products.
GameStop has long relied on revenues from used games, and recently used a fierce strategy to buy old cell phones for recycling and resale.
Here is the complete statement:
GameStop is working tirelessly at this unprecedented time to provide our customers with and interact with a more secure environment. Like many businesses, we are applying changes in our sales practices to be able to be available to our customers as they seek sources of success for their lives during this stressful time.
Certain actions we have taken include:
Offering a wide range of social outreach practices in our s tores, such as allowing only 10 customers at our stores at any given time
Following the CDC guidelines to find out how to manage in-store lines that create a 6-meter parameter between customers on checkout lines
Drop our store hours to work 12 – 8 p.m. from Saturday, March 21 to Sunday, March 29
Delivery of a foreign shipping service @ all U.S. retail locations. Allowing customers to cross the line and take their purchase at the front door of our stores
It adjourns our video game and electronic commerce until Sunday, March 29
Prioritize all gaming events and midnight launch activities until further notice
Temporarily disables all active game channels in our stores
Encouraging consumers to grow our ecommerce online capabilities and direct deliveries to their homes from our warehouses or stores.
In addition, we have introduced high-quality cleaning methods in all high-impact areas of our stores. And like other retailers, we take aggressive steps, in a difficult environment, to quickly find laundry facilities so that our stores maintain a very safe environment for our friends and customers.
We're all in this together. Like many businesses, we continue to monitor the COVID-19 epidemic and adapt our business models to comply with the CDC's recommended guidelines, while satisfying our players that they want the product they want in a way that protects our customers and our affiliates.
