I don’t usually do this at the very beginning of a review, no matter how remastered it is, but the occasion is special so please allow me. Ghost Trick: Ghost Detective was released in the summer of 2010 as probably the last great third-party game for one of the consoles with the best catalog in the history of the industry. It hit the market in Europe and the West in general in early 2011, inevitably making it the swan song for the best-selling laptop of all time as the 3DS geared up for launch just a few weeks later.
In this context and in the case of the latest craze of shu takumiAuthor at Capcom of the popular adventure series Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright, it’s no wonder the title Ghost Trick seemed almost like an irony of the game itself: a ghost hidden at the end of a legendary machine, but so many fans You took care of it We care about making it a cult classic.
And what I didn’t want to do now: My analysis of Ghost Trick: Ghost Detective for Nintendo DS happened to be my first review on Gamereactor. Back then, a long time ago twelve and a half years

Basically, this lover of magic tricks, the afterlife and crime fiction has combined all of his tastes in a completely unique work, deliberately moving away from the style of the Ace Attorney in court. He also drew on other artists’ designs, which were more stylized and psychedelic, to emphasize the main difference in this adventure: the mysteries in the spirit world. You have helped through this central mechanism, which is much more tangible than the endless dialogues between lawyers, prosecutors and witnesses Sissel possessing various inert objects in order to avoid murders… and unveil the mystery of his own.
For any other reviews of Ghost Trick as a graphic adventure that I still recommend today, I really invite you to re-read this review. Everything he says about rhythm, variety, peaks of difficulty or valleys of ease, originality or mechanics is still valid. Even if you haven’t hollowed out the biggest plot twists, th is is a piece of history crafted with the author’s innate ability to surprise and entertain, with unforgettable moments and characters that will grow on you.
For the rest, we have to assess how this version of Ghost Trick: Ghost Detective is developing now Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC for about 30 dollars. It’s true that the original was available exclusively for the Nintendo DS for about a year, only to be later adapted for iOS as a free-to-play version that is still available (try it for free, all chapters for 12 dollars).

Still, for the price Capcom is asking, I think this new remaster is worth it, especially for Nintendo Switch. First, it looks a lot better in 1080p60, as not the charmingly pixelated DS original, but also the iPhone or iPad version, which is obviously years old. In addition, it finally includes the extras that we demanded at the time, from illustrations to musical arrangements, through a series of achievements (called “challenges“) and even the so-called “ghost puzzle“to continue playing once the story is over.
In closing, I have to say that unlike the havoc he’s wreaked on the entire Ace Attorney line since the Nintendo DS existed without them, he’s not translate into spanishCapcom has been nice to Ghost Trick while maintaining what was already notable Spanish localization from the original and even added new Asian texts for a total of nine languages.
And I say play on Switch because the original was a very portable game and because while it was available on both Nintendo DS screens and we only have one now (so it doesn’t quite feel right at home), finger controls on the Switch Touch screen, it works like a charm, restoring the essence of bygone times.
So let’s see the final version of Ghost Trick: Ghost Detective? I wouldn’t go as far as to say it because some elements of the conversion are still compelling (although those great animations look even smoother now), but it’s the best version yet of what is undoubtedly an adventure game classic.
