The gliding armor may seem pretty rudimentary at first glance, but it hides one of the most groundbreaking capabilities in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The set increases Link’s parachuting mobility, which in itself is a good bonus that you’ll only use in certain situations. However, upgrading armor gives you the ability to fully survive fall damage.
Don’t worry if you tend to skydive often and can’t find the right time to open your paraglider before you hit the ground. This guide explains where to find the Glide armor set – the Glide shirt, Glide tights and Glide mask Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and how to upgrade it to get the Impact Proof bonus. This way you can say goodbye to fall damage and live in freefall with no consequences.
Glide Armor chest piece location
You will find the glide shirt on Courage Island at the coordinates (-2400, 0824, 0615), a sky island northwest of the Central Hyrule Sky. To get there quickly, Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower is the best choice. Launch into the sky, then glide southwest to the island below the rounded bumps on the side.
Funnily enough, of the three spots, this is probably the one that’s easy to get to without much effort. This allows you to activate the trial version and do a test run. Once you get to the bottom, the construct will ask you if you’d like to take on a challenge.
Regardless of how you get to Courage Island, you will then have to pay the fee a zonai charge and accept the challenge.
You must repeat this challenge in different locations for all three armor pieces. Essentially, you have to parachute through green rings floating in the air until you land the construct back on the island, with the final destination being the pool of water in the center. If you’re having trouble, try not to accelerate your dive with R too often – take a second or two after traversing a green ring to prepare for the next dive.
Completing this trial will reward you with the glide shirt. This armor piece has 2 defense and increases your mobility while skydiving. Oh, and don’t forget to activate the Taunhiy Shrine before you go.
Location of the Glide Armor leg pieces
You will find the sliding pantyhose on Bravery Island at the coordinates (0176, 1988, 0758), a sky island in the North Hyrule Sky Archipelago. To get there, head to the Skyview Tower of the Thyphlo Ruins, launch into the air and paraglide south to the circular island far south of the group of four there.
Don’t worry about the massive structures along the way. Because the island is lower, you can paraglide to the island. Make sure you alternate between scuba diving and paragliding. Or better yet, make your own meals with Stamella mushrooms to keep your stamina up.
Once on the island you will find a steward construct. They will tell you about the diving ceremony. Deliver a Zonai Charge, then take on the timed challenge that requires you to jump through green rings as quickly as possible.
Completing this trial will reward you with the sliding pantyhose. This armor piece has 2 defense and increases your mobility while skydiving. Don’t forget to activate the Simosiwak Shrine on the way out.
Location of the Glide Armor headpiece
You can find the sliding mask on Valor Island under the coordinates (4459, -821, 1114), a sky island in the South Lanayru Sky Archipelago. To get there, I recommend using the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower to launch into the sky and then paragliding northeast toward the circular surface you see on the map.
You don’t have to climb anything as the island is at a low altitude. I managed to overcome this problem simply by paragliding towards it. However, if you’re struggling, I recommend making meals with Stamella mushrooms so you can replenish your stamina along the way.
Once on the island you will find a steward construct. They will tell you about the diving ceremony. For the low price of a Zonai Charge, you can take on a timed challenge of jumping through green rings as quickly as possible.
Completing this trial will reward you with the sliding mask. This armor piece has 2 defense and increases your mobility while skydiving. Also, don’t forget to activate the Sihajog Shrine on the island.
How to remove fall damage in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Once you have the entire Glide armor set, upgrade each piece of armor twice will grant you that impact resistant Bonus that completely negates fall damage if you’re carrying the entire set.
To do this you need the following:
- First upgrade: 3 Keese wings for each piece of armor and a fee in rupees.
- Second upgrade: 5 Keese Wings and 6 Aerocuda Eyeballs for each armor piece, plus a rupee fee.
Keep in mind that with both items, once you have Sensor+ installed on your Purah Pad, you can take a photo with the in-game camera (just put it on the ground!) and go to the Hyrule Compendium to get them to mark. Then, as you move around, the sensor will let you know of nearby sightings.
Once you have everything, go to one of the Great Faerie Wells and upgrade each piece of armor twice. There won’t be much celebration on the part of the fairy, but as soon as you open your inventory, you’ll see the impact resistance bonus next to the armor. Now go and jump without fear.
